Droid Master is my new project. Most of the basic gameplay engine is written and it promises to be innovative and original, yet still simple and fun to play. So far I've been working on a beautiful graphics engine, currently requiring NO shaders and will run on the slowest of computers. Anyway, enough talk, here are some screenies.

And before you look at the third screen shot and say it...No, it is not a Pikmin remake!


Any feedback is greatly appreciated, though theres not really much to comment on at the moment.

They'll show for you as they're probably in your cache..

Once I visited one of them and came back here, it showed it. If you go here and hit refresh, then its unlikely you'll see them. I think...

I got to them eventually.. But a wierdety..

I dont THINK its my browser.. Every time I click the link it brings me back here.. I think that may be anothing hotlinking thing. If they detect a direct request of a file from another page other than a freewebs one, it'll shove them back where they came from?

@Anime Blood I know theres not much to see at the moment. I posted them up as I found I work much better when people are watching my progress as it prevents me from giving up on the project (which I normally do)

@Nicholas Thompson Your probably right that its just freewebs not allowing the images to show up. If anyone else can't see them, you can view them properly by viewing them at my freewebs site.

I've added intelligent fish to the game. By intelligent I mean that they swim realisitically around the water, turn to avoid hitting walls, slide along the walls etc. They are also animated. I'll post a demo up soon so that you can see the game in motion.

Enough screenshots...heres a demo:

Controls:
arrow keys = move
shiftkey = center camera behind player
spacekey = use control field

The control field can be used to direct the droids, who look like a robotic version of you.

The droids are always moving forwards, you can point them away from you with the control field.

Feedback is mainly wanted about the graphical style, which is what my current focus is on.

Thanks for the reply. I agree that it looked too dark so I've brightened it up.

I love those fish I agree it was a tad dark. 29 FPS is a bit low though.. What exactly is the objective of the game by the way?

Its locked at 30 and sometimes when you're hitting the frame rate the fps will say 29 or even 31. I know it is hitting the 30 as I've tried locking it at 60 and that worked fine, just ran too quickly. It can do 60 on this crappy 760MHz machine and I think thats fairly good with 100 fish.

It is very difficult to get all 10 to the ship but you decide how many you think you can handle, say 3, and just concentrate on getting those 3 to the finish, ignoring the other 7. This makes the difficulty fit perfectly to whose playing.

Just got to add in a few minor details and I should have a playable (not just a tech demo) version up at the weekend. I think its fairly obvious how it works.

Made a grass and tree system so that they smoothly sway away from you when you touch them.

Demo should be out tommorrow provided that all goes well.

Heres a brief description:

Controls:

The basic objective is simple. Guide as many of the 10 droids as you can to your ship. However, your droids are always moving forwards at a constant speed. When you enter the ship yourself, you will be given a score and the game will restart.

Bah humbug! I want shaders! Now!

As for the actual demo, I am downloading it now. Freewebs is the slowest of the slow, however.

Hehe I've tried to replicate a non-shader effect that I've seen in many big commercial games such as Pikmin 2 and Skies of Arcadia. Don't worry about the non-shadersness, I'm not just scrolling the UV mapping and it should look quite impressive in motion.

The game now has beautiful long grass. Its quite efficient as even my super slow pc can handle it and the distance the grass is viewable from is customizable.

Thanks for the feedback.

I had made the game brighter since the first 5 screenshots, but the addition of the grass had made it appear much darker. I think if I lighten the grass a lot then it should fix the darkness problem.
