Heh, good joke there.
I myself bought a Dell. Look on the Outlet and you can get some good bargains. They are refurbished laptops, but only because people cancelled or returned their orders. They then rebuilt and re-QAed the machine. Best I've seen was a Dell 8600c 2Ghz Dothan with 1920x1200 resolution, XP Pro, 512Mb RAM, DVD burner, and ATI 9600 Pro Turbo graphics card. All for £915 inc VAT and delivery. That machine basically runs at about the same speed as a 3Ghz P4 (times Centrino by 1.5 normally), and in a lot things outperforms it (SuperPI for example). I know because I got a similar deal (not quite as good though). Runs Doom 3 fine, and you have to love that resolution. Very nice machine.
Note though that there is a Dell 9100 which can be equiped with an ATI 9800 (only laptop I know of). Is actually a cut down version of the X800 apparently and runs about the same speed of a desktop 9800 (about 18-19k in 3D2001). Unfortuantly it is like a brick and the battery lasts less than an hour (8600 lasts 4-5 hours ish).
Also look at RockDirect for serious P4 laptops (2 drives with RAID 0, 3.6Ghz Extreme P4 etc). Again size of buses, sound like airplanes taking off, weigh a tonne, and can replace a radiator if the battery didn't run out after half an hour.
Best place to look is
http://www.whatlaptop.co.uk/Forums/Default.aspx Totally helped me choose a machine. Well, is best in UK. There is another one (mainly USA), but I lost the link when my machine died. BG is starting on TV, so must dash.
Top tip is to avoid Alienware. May be good desktops, but overpriced and underpowered in laptops. Got to love the alien eyes (actually an option in BIOS), but the same RockDirect Extreme spec always beats it for speed, and is normally £200 cheaper. Go for a PCTorque, VoodooPC, or perhaps SavRow for similar looking machines with more power and cost less.
Cheers
I am 99% probably lying in bed right now... so don't blame me for crappy typing
