I'm thinking of getting a modelling program.

Basically, I want a good program that I can use mainly to make vehicles such as cars and tanks, and outdoor terrains/roads for them, but also secondly for buildings for FPS type games.

What program would best fit my needs(under $80)?

Neither. Get Milkshape and DeleD instead, and save yourself some cash.

I've made a couple models in the milkshape trial version, maybe I'll get it. I'll download Deled and see what that is.

DeleD is most suitable for indoor FPS-style geometry.

DeleD 0.9 LITE will be released in about a week (most likely next weekend) and will include lightmapping. It might be wise to check that newer version also.

A while back, I downloaded a program called Blender 3D for free. Even though the program can be used to make full games, it can also be used to create 3D models. Then after you would create the model, then you can export it to *.x file format. I've seen the gallary, and it can create great graphics. http://www.blender3d.com

p.s. animation is supported

I have also played around with JTEdit. It is another free 3D modeling program. I like its interface better than some others as it is have 4 views I am used to from other apps (3D, top ortho, front ortho, and side ortho).

There are a lot of free/cheap apps out there. I searched for a while and have come to realize it comes down to preference. I would recommend trying several of them and seeing which one has the interface and features you find easy to work with. I can provide more names of apps I have collected it you like.
