I have homeworld 2 on my windows, and I thought it was pretty fun. My friend got it for Mac and is going to let me borrow it for a while, since I just got a new iMac G5!! I downloaded the demo for mac and tried playing it. With all the graphics set to low..the game went at about 2 frames per second!!! I like everything else about this computer..im learning Xcode..I found a lot of fun OSX games for it. None of them run slow. America's army acutally runs faster on it than on my windows. WHY the heck is Homeworld 2 sooo slow on it? Its not even playable.

Do you have any cats? Hmmm.. didn't think so, there's your problem...

Get some cats, problem solved.

Cats make everything better, if problem still presists, open computer case while it's on, and rub the cat on the motherboard. If cat gets shocked, you lose, if not, you win.

ummm...well actually I do have a cat. I don't think he woud appreciate me rubbing him against the computer...I would probably lose a lot of blood trying to do that. Anyone have a serious answer?

Check the FAQ. Update your drivers. Hold Steve Jobs at gunpoint and demand to know why. Past that I'm out of ideas.

Cats suck.

Anyways, the porblem may be your garhpics card. A progarm may run faster than a game becuase theer are no graphics to manipulate in the video card. What are the scpeifictaions for the computer?

perhaps you havent updated the game?
http://www.macgamefiles.com/detail.php?item=18390

if you create a user in OSX that has minimal usage eg: just the game as listed for usage then you have created a very optimal user setting for gaming.
Imac G5s are quick but not as fast as there tower counterparts.

after looking at a forum someone suggests that the 5200 geforce might be sluggy when playing this game.

If no-one gives your an answer to a question you have asked, consider:- Is your question clear.- Did you ask nicely.- Are you showing any effort to solve the problem yourself

Ah thank you very much all. I found that this computer has a 5200 and the game has issues with a 5200. I also found that there is a update that I didn't see which probably will fix it. I am downloading it right now.

Edit: Well its only for the CD version so I will have to wait till my friend loans it to me to find out if it fixes the problem.

Get the update (that you appear to have already found!) as it helps things massively, at least it did on my G5 iMac. I don't really use my Mac for gaming much, but I was interested to see how some games ran and there's not a whole lot of difference there really, but the 64MB graphics card limit starts to be noticed in certain titles (and I'd love to see how the hell they'd get Doom3 to run on that - the G5 is perfectly fast enough, but the 5200 will be pushing it).

5200 runs Doom3 just fine on the PC and Macintosh G5, that said, there is nothing stopping you upgrading.

While the urban myth surrounds the Macintosh that you *require* a specialised version using a specialised BIOS.. it is just that, a myth so that you pay 2x more for a GeForce/Radeon on the Macintosh platform than you do for the PC Platform.

me and a mate decided to compare BIOS one time because I wanted to get my then 'top dog' Quadro4 900XL working on my G4. We found the BIOS to be identical.. plugged the card in and it started up just fine, but it didn't work too grand as there were no drivers for it.

I always did wonder why they could have a top-notch rigg ar work but couldn't have the same cards at home cause they didn't sell 'MAC' versions.

I'm using a 5200 too, Doom3 runs at 40-50fps on my 1600 Athlon - which is not too shabby considering the spec of most gamers PC's, that's on a fairly clean win2000pro OS. Not that I think the extra £30 or so to get a 5600 or something would be a waste of money - it's just a decent low budget card among a crop of rubbish (ATI equivalents in the same price range just make the 5200 shine).
