I've seen a lot of poeople posting 3D models on this forum, so I thought I'd do the same to get some pointers on it.
I've been modeling in Gmax now for almost 3 weeks.. and this is my first low poly model being made for actual use.

I will post other pictures on request, meaning.. do you want to study something to be able to comment on it.. please tell me.. and I will have the new screens up within the day.

Info: 3Dmodel:Gmax Texture:Gimp2.0 | Count 1300(triangles) | 700(poly)

Screen one(fron/side render, far away:.

Screen two(back/side render, far away:.

Screeb three(chest/face render, different lighting and older version (other textures has not been added on this)

Please give me some comments on how to improve this model before starting animation.. the shoes has not been textured yet.

That is pretty darn good, and perhaps I could learn from you and fix up my zombie.

Very nice texture as well. Did you find a picture of those jeans, or make take one yourself?

Post a wireframe view(front preferably, like your first pic) and I'll see if there's anything I can help you with geometrically.

Nice job Jonny. You should stop by the ED forums again.

I think that all you need to do with that model, is to make the pants appear like they are dirty, or torn up, it looks like a zombie who is doing a levis commercial right now. Awsome work by the way.

Thanks for the reply.
As for learning from me, well I'm very new at this myself.. so I dont know what I can teach you.. but if you like what you see feel free to use it as a referance. (you could also contact me on MSN or AOL if you would like to talk to me.. Ask John to give you my adress)
--
All the textures was done by me including the jeans.. as for inspiration, I used the jeans I currently had on
--
I will post a wireframe version of this as soon as I get home.. in about four hours from posting this. So you could take a look at it and tell me if anything looks odd
--
I've been visiting the ED forum a lot.. but sinse I'm not in the project yet.. I dont have access to the active forums, or so I've heard. I'm currently working on a test NPC for the game, so I can show what I can do.. Hopefully it will be done in a little week or so.. texturing takes a while. I'm currently working on the concept art for the character.

Thanks again for your reply, and I hope to get some additional comments when I post the wireframes

Major Payn:
Thanks for replying

Its true, it does look like an ad, perhaps I should put levis on there and submit it to them

Actually though.. this is a template. I'm planing on making about five textures for this thing.. including shirt on some, blood and dirt as well.

Thanks for such a kind comment, and for your reply

LoL!

Very nice model, and I especially like your use of free tools (GMax is free, but non commercial). The textures are outstanding!

Nine thumbs up.

you may want to rethink the animation areas (shoulders, knees, thighs, elbows) .. has an odd blocky design, but overall a good model.

I'd suggest working from splines, to create a framework. You'll find it much easier to create a softer model, atleast until your more comfortable with box modelling that is.

Simply create Splines for the major areas, join them together... triangulate -> combine -> weld -> polymesh. Then it's a case of cleaning up.

I'd also suggest downloading Max7 Trial, it has a much better UV Editor than Gmax 1.2

Hey Raven:.
Thanks a lot for the comments on this model.
In the short time I've been working with 3D I've only been able to test out boxmodeling.. and its not too strange that areas of animation might seem quite odd.. sinse I havent even tried animation yet I'm gonna test out splines.. even though I'm quite comfy with box-modeling.. Do you have any examples of how I might improve the animated areas?

Thanks a lot for helping me improve.. now I just need to know how

bah, splines suck. They are great for lofting race tracks but I will always be a box modeler. The model is looking pretty good. Right now its all quads which looks nice as a mesh, but since its going to be triangulated in the end you might as well do it now.. That way you can turn edges and make optimizations that weren't apparent before.
The texture is looking pretty good too. It's nice to see someone who actually paints there textures instead of trying to find an easy way out by generating them.

I've found the easiest way to make the animatable areas, is to cut around them and remove the area between them... that way you can make the non-affected areas with better detail and shape.

I'm going to have to download 3D Studio Max 7 Trial to provide you with the .Max, but i'll upload a recent model I've been working on. Everything is in the groups that should show you how the model looks with and without the animation groups.

Basically what you look to do is to make them crease & stretch so the model doesn't have to. So effectively you join the 2 areas, make them a relatively decent size and then simply cut them in half around the axis. Provides a good range of motion for them.

The Shoulders and Elbows are pretty close to what you want to mimic across the rest of the joints.

I've been looking into some sruff after your last post.. and I think I'm staring to get it.. though every powerup you can trow my way will be a great help.. Do you have any chat software.. MSN,AOL etc.? it would be nice to have someone with knowlage to speak with.. if you dont have too many already.

lol, yeah does look like a levi commercial...just make a animation of him strutting and submit it to the levi company

Very nice low poly mesh...though as raven said you'll need to change it abit for the animation (because when it rotates certain limbs it can cause a mess )

and the texture is way better then anything i could even dream of making

Looking v.good, just remember when your animating that this zombie is built so hes gonna move like a rotting ninja (like rip out his arm bones and tendons use them as nun-chucks, beat the crap out of you... then eat you). He would look very out of place lumbering !
youd probably planne all that already but just puttin my thoughts into the fray.
Keep up the great work
Baggers

(ps. mumble...damn guy..mumble..getting that good in 3 weeks mumble...)
(pps. dont take the nun-chuck advice, thats just stupid...yeah i tried and the doctors are very unhappy with me)
