Well I finally finished my first model for my first game (whew) and so I thought I'd post to get any opinions, particularly constructive critisizm. It's low poly (around 700 triangles) but I rendered it with high detail textures. I'll lower the resolution quite a bit in the game since the camera will be drawn back.

Thanks for any comments!

And a close up of the head... (silly that you can't attach more than one file to a post, oh well)

Very cool. The only criticism I have is that it looks like he's hiding a light under his hat, because the shading on his face is backwards. Other than that excellent work!

Superb work. I hope to half that good some day. I see the same effect G Man mentioned with the light on the face, but also on the knees and pants. It almost looks as if your light is positioned at the characters knees, shining upward? Very minor thing though, you've done a fantastic job.

Thank you for the positive comments! The light sources you speak of are from the source photographs, so it poses a bit of a problem for me to remove them. I tried a couple times but it made it look unnatural. I figured I would just leave it as there probably won't be any closeups in the game so there's no purpose in being a perfectionist about the model.

Good critisism though, as lighting is very important in video game textures and I'll need to work on that!

You did really fantastic work Hattori. I think the lighting thing is only going to be noticed by folks like us, when you ask us to take a good look and critique. Very good stuff.

Re the source photos with the lighting already there, there are some really nice touchup tools in Photoshop. Apologies if you've tried that already. Your model looks excellent!

Well, I've been away from home so I haven't had had the chance to mess with the texture any since I posted the pic on here. I had tried before to lighten the shine with the burn tool before but not very hard as its not a big detriment to the model insofar as what my game will actually show of it. I'm sure I'll figure it out.

I could still give making the Syndicate guy a try though if you'd like. Do you have any drawing of what you'd like him to look like, or would any interpretation of the tiny little sprite guy from the game suffice? And what poly range would you want him in?
