What is generally considered the best program for designing characters and/or worlds? I realize that there may not be one that's great at everything. Assuming money is no object.

In particular I want something that is fast an easy to use and has pretty powerful texturing capabilities.

I've been using Milkshape 3d and Cartography shop which are easy to use but a little limited and/or buggy.

I've tried 3D Studio max and Rhino 3d...but couldn't get far enough to really form an opinion. Basically if I spend the time to really learn a program I want to jump right to a proven program.
