The IDE is coming along good, but with some bad news... there will not be a demo by Christmas. I have been very busy the past few weeks. Everything to do with what gets projects to work is just about done. Then I move on to getting source, text and rich text files to open.

I will be adding some new stuff to the project files to include the text and rich text files.

It will look like this in the project file:
;text1=Readme.txt
;text2=ReleaseNotes.txt

;richtext1=Readme.txt
;richtext2=ReleaseNotes.txt

It will be a comment so that there is no possible problems with the default IDE.

This might be better in the Work in progress section, since you have nothing of your program to show.

You don't actually need to do that - the default IDE simply ignores anything which it does not understand.

In the screen the highlighted node is the main source file in the project. And if anyone has any good nice icons or could make me some I would appreciate it. I'm far from being a good artist.

You're buying the interface, but giving away the IDE free? Wow, you really must love us

Good work, and Much appreciated

Btw, You asked for some icons... I have some sitting here that I made a long while ago, that you may be able to use as place holders ( Attached )

Jess.

The IDE will be for sell, as it will cost me around $400 to get a license for the controls and I'm putting quite a bit of time into this. I'm looking at around $20.

Before I do sell it, I will rewrite most of the code and work out as much of the bugs as I can. As of right now I have not noticed any bugs. The reson for rewriting it is to fix some of the bulky code and make it run more efficient and faster.

I also want to make it built around plug-ins like Protean but that not anytime soon.

And thanks for the icons. I will use the save icon, mine is sh*t.

Haha, ok, fair enough.

If it's good enough ( which it definatly sounds like it will be ), then I'm sure you'll get a fair few people to buy it!

Glad that you could use the/a icon

Jess.

Yes $20 US, all updates forever free.

I plan on rewriting most of it before release. But even if I rewrite it later, it still free. All you pay is $20. I also plan on, if I do, make it built around plugins like protean. That will also be a free upgrade to those who bought the first IDE.

EDIT:
And right now I'm gettin the syntax editor working.

And yes there will be a trial.

Hey I have been looking at this thread for some while now. Your IDE is realy comming along and looks pritty impresive. Your icons are realy nice and make your ide more colourfull. But why use defragmenter icon .

$20 us whats that in english £ must be about £14 or somthing like that.
I see your signature and it says Two plug-ins, A Time/Date and New File commands. Have you got a srceen shot of that working or a demo.

Thanks
Eddie

I got the toolbars working all the way now, and they are working well. Next I'm going to rewrite the docking windows, get them working right... I have 1 bug in them.

I have made a dummy way for the syntax highlighting just for now. I'll have it working all the way before release.

I think my next project with the IDE will be getting the Scheme editor running, so you may be seeing some real impressive screens in the near future.

That is about all that is going on at the moment. And thank you all for the support.

The program looks very good, but I do not think that too many people will want to an IDE for DBP. I know I wouldn't.

If the IDE is good enough, and (very important) if it supports multiple languages including Chinese, you could ask TGC if they would be willing to invest in it as an official replacement. It is risky of course, but there is no harm in trying.

Problem with that is the DarkBASIC Professional Compiler doesn't support Unicode. Quite a HUGE oversight if you ask me, given that the majority of DBP users are non-english; and something like 1/4 of them all are using non-Latin based languages.
Would help if TGC pulled thier finger out and sorted out the compiler, as the .dbpro files while useful are annoying and with no inline output of the compiler it means getting the compile time data is a pain in the ass (as you well know Rob)

Really what we need is the TGC team to sit down with a new IDE developer and work cooperatively on a design that can be expanded upon later rather than just thinking of the here'n'now of thier sales.

If you mean that the IDE needs to be multi language, it is not at this moment but will be. But I do not know any other language but english so that is one of the last things on my list as it will take some time.

And I posted this in the Programming talk forum, but I will ask here also... does anyone know of a free or cheap .NET property browser control?

Ok some bad news, I have a huge essay at school due by the 28th. So I have to back off the comp a bit for a couple of weeks.

I really, really, really hate essays, I hate writing... except for programs!

I got the scheme editor somewhat working but going to do some changing and modifying to it. I know how to make it work, just trying to think how I want to make it work at the moment. I have gotten some pretty cool ideas for it, can't wait till it is done.

The DarkBASIC Professional compiler isn't capable of anything except ASCII, as such any multi-language IDEs would have to actually convert the entire document to ASCII equivilent when it saves the compile version.

bloody pain in the arse to get regionalise something that isn't unicode-based.

I got some new news finnaly...

The scheme Editor will save the color values of the Editor Colors, Pattern Styles, and Block Styles to a XML file (which I just finished finding out how that works). Hopefully I will have the Scheme Editor Finished in a couple of weeks and once it is finished, I will release a compiled version of it so you all can have a head start and begin developing some schemes for the IDE when it is released.

There will some docs for it so you guys have something for reference on how the scheme editor works.

Here is the two parts of the Scheme Editor:

This will be like protean, built around plugins. The image above is just a screen of a test plugin. It kinda err, clumsy at the moment, needs some work, but the plugins are loading...

Comment, suggestions, and crits are welcome... I want to know what you all think about it.

New news!! I just now finnaly think I know how I will have the plugin system work. I can get full control of a plugin from a seperate dll but there is a few things I'm still going to play with to see how far I can take this idea.

Here in the next week or so, I should have the plugin system started enough to begin writing a few plugins for it.

I have three screens on this and the next 2 post.

Edit: By the way, there still will be the tabbed dock controls and much of the original IDE in this... just being converted to plugins.
