Here's a free untextured assault rifle model. Simply paste the code from the "Source" button into an ascii text file and give it a .X extension. If you like it, do please post a rendering with your texture applied! I'd like to see it.

heh, here's a pic with textures applied(have -almost- all of the gun textured)

I'm a terrible texture artist so i'm probably not doing this model justice, sorry.. Just fiddled around with it, personally.. i think it's gettin there though..

" seems to be a M4A1. anyway it looks great"

How on earth is that an M4?

That image is pretty cryptic, you really can't see the form very well.

What exactly do you mean by an ASCII text file? So, am I supposed t odownload something special or copy and paste it into Notepad?

Just paste it into a notepad document. Save it. Then, rename the file giving it a .X extension.

That's a really cool model. It's better than anything I can do! It's a pity that I can't really say the same about the texture. Well done for trying, but it doesn't really work.

Here is another free untextured model. This time a mac/uzi-esque submachinegun. A quick render is attached. Same deal as before, simply paste the information contained in the code snippet into a text file and change the extension to ".X". Again, post a render of your textured version here.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to agree though. The first model looked nothing like an M4. Basically it's a generic assault type rifle, based very loosely on an FN-FAL only the gas piston is on the bottom as opposed to the top.

Ok, next off for this week's offerings... Here's a chaingun. Same instructions and license as the previous models. If anyone is finding these useful, please pipe up so that I know that I'm not wasting my time and space on this board...

By the way, I've been creating some of these models with limbs.

The chaingun for example has two limbs (x3ds_receiver and x3ds_barrels). To animate the chaingun firing, simply xrotate limb 2 and fire a bullet every 90 degrees of rotation. (to be precise, the barrels should rotate counter-clockwise if you are looking at the front of the gun)

Here's DBPro code to do that:

Similarly, the pistol has three limbs, x3ds_receiver, x3ds_Magazine and x3ds_Slide.

That should make it easier to animate these models in an animation package as well.

The other models do not have moving parts (well alright, I could have saved the bolts in the SMG & Assault rifle as limbs and the magazines, but didn't)

Here's one for New Years Eve... A Laser Rifle! I left the procedural textures in this one... This one has two limbs, the rifle itself and the battery-pack(magazine)

I like that laser rifle, very cool looking. Maybe next you could make some kind of rocket launcher?

As requested... A rocket launcher. Procedural colors left in place. Two limbs, the Launcher itself and the Rocket. The rocket comes out to just about 100 polys so it ought to fly nicely!

I'd like to request a sniper rifle (M82A1 barrett or somthing) and a reasonably generic shotgun

...and I'd also like to tell you that your assault rifle + SMG models are going in my game Can't tell you much more except for the name (Uberninjaball: Flaming Blur) and that it needs a sniper rifle in it. It involves ninjas, advanced terrain, and 2 player mega-killing action - a fine combnation!

Alright, enough about me. I guess I just need to say thanks once more time for this great benefit to teh comnunity!

As per request, a Barret-esque sniper rifle... Two limbs, the rifle and the magazine.

Here's the render... Do not use the data attached in the sorce button. It would appear that it was too many lines, so I'll post another message with the .X file attached.

They are not animated, but most are saved with limbs so you can do limb animations or load them up in your favorite animator and go for broke. Additionally, they're not textured, so you'll need to do that (I'm not too swift at texturing). So do have the procedural colors left in place from the modelling software though.

Yes

On your computer, go to "Start", "Programs", "Accessories", "Notepad". (That'll start the Notepad pogram). Then paste the text into Notepad. Save the file. Then in Explorer, go find the file and change the ".txt" extension to the filename to ".x". That's all that's to it.
