Yeah, I saw it on the news earlier this afternoon, and I assure you 'Phuket' is not pronounced the way you'd expect.

Its not the quake that affected people . It was the quake's effect on the ocean that did it

But the quake was still the cause. No quake, No tsunamis. If it wasn't such a strong quake it would not have been so terrible. I just hope thats the last one for a long time.

by definition I believe a tsunami has to be caused by an earthquake to be entitled so. Therfore it was the only eventuallity of the quake, therefore directly caused by the quake.

Or does that not make sense

They can be caused by volcanos erupting too actually.

And oh look what dictionary.com says: 'A very large ocean wave caused by an underwater earthquake or volcanic eruption.'

they could also be cause by a massive land slide or a meteorite. Basically, a huge wave that isn't caused by the moon is considered a tsunami, unless of course, the moon falls into the ocean...

I'm rambling now...

And no, it wasn't a tidal wave, it was a tsunami.. tidal waves are caused by the moon, (tides)

I was watching Fox news, and maybe they were wrong, but they said that 29,000 people are dead or missing.

CNN is all fuzzy on my TV, so I watch fox news alot, other than all the right wing crap they spit out it's pretty good news. And I like to watch that Bill Oriely guy, just to see him argue with people.

Oh and fox news said that it was 29000 dead or missing, with a large emphasis on the Missing part, 12000 might be dead, but another 16000 might be missing.

Guns arn't the problem, people are the problem, shoot all the people and guns arn't a problem anymore.

Quote: " 1. The swell or crest of surface ocean water created by the tides.
2.
1. An unusual, often destructive rise of water along the seashore, as from a storm or a combination of wind and high tide.
2. A tsunami.
3. An overwhelming manifestation; a flood: a tidal wave of illicit drugs; an emotional tidal wave.

As much as I love dictionary.com, that definition is false, look up tidal

Tsunami's are very specifically NOT caused by the tides, and thus tidal wave is a misnomer.

Yes I've looked it up. 'Tidal wave' is just a name, it doesn't have to contain its direct meaning in its words.

I don't care that the word 'tidal' means something else, tsunamis are tidal waves.

LOL all of that stuff is true! But I still like watching Bill O Reilly, even though all of that stuff is true. The one person I can't stand, is that Hanity guy off of Hanity and colms, that guy is an @ss hole! He doesn't let anybody talk their mind.

This is pretty large, they said something like 19000 people were dead if I remember correctly. Quite horrific, wouldn't want to be there right now.
