By using many many tutorials and using a lot of trial and error, I've been modeling for a few years now, shame i can't sell em with the student version of max *grumble*.

ahh the white joint between the hair is supposed to be transparent, still haven't figured out how to enable this in the renderer but it won't be there when loaded into DBP. Theres not gonna be many of these guys on the screen at a time, but even if there will be, i have LOD system designed to take off the burden. Enemies will have a poly count of around 800-1.5k, 2.5k-4k for the more powerful and rare ones, bosses etc
