hi people, i was away for a while, about 8 months, and it's a month i'm back, i was thinking to see a big quantity of new games, nope.

Where are the games??? the showcase is almost a dead place, just a new game every 365 days, and a pile of mud for every compo.

Where are our projects? some good games like time ship, dumbo adventures, the big stock of games by banshee, etc etc

We don't have a community showcase, i don't know, like a chart showcase, in all the other sites, like mp3mix of videogames, mp3mix of c64 tune, they have it, and they have all the projects from the worst one to the killer one.
We don't know how many games have been made with dbpro, and i see nobody of the bosses really take care of this. it's a pity.

The showcase has always been poor. Not the content but certainly the way it's arranged.

IMO the importance of the showcase has been hugely underestimated by TGC when it comes to attracting new customers. Rarely updated, one screenshot, no user comments or scores......if I wanted to download a couple of games to see how good DBPro was I wouldn't know where to start. I wonder just how many potential users have been put off and looked elsewhere where the quality of software possible is, not necessarily better, but certainly more obvious.

Speaking from personal experience DUOtris made the newsletter cover a couple of months ago but still hasn't showed up in the Showcase after emailing Rich. So yes it would appear to be low priority.

I do hope Apollo 3 is hurried up, and the whole site redesigned. A fair few things are hard to get to unfortunately.

Agreed. I pains me to say this, but the TGC site is very hard to navigate. I know alot of people'll angrily counter that, but when's the last time you tried to find the Advanced Terrin pack without searching the forum

I've tried:

DBPro / Downloads / Upgrades
DBPro / Third Party DLL list

Overall I think the site is laid out well. But I do agree some things are quite hard to find like the terrain pack.

i must say darkbasic is an editor for "sunday coders" (nice pun... ) i think it is a formidable incentive for us to show our works in a showcase with score and comments.

it is understimate the potential of the showcase, i have to post my games on other sites to see score and ratings and download dbpro games from sites like www.caiman.us to play the dbpro games of the other users.
i post a topic like this one year and a half ago, but most of the users reply me i'm an idiot 'cause they have things more important of this to do. Hey, they live on our money! They can do a nice chart and showcase for our works! Damned of the damned, why i'm to surf the net to find freegames sites to post my games ?? Because the showcase of dbpro is a puny thing. And nobody watch it. It's useless as it is now.

they just show what they want to sell, isn't it?

Duotris deserve a place in the showcase as sunday panzers deserve, like more other games lost on the topics list of program announcement.

and another things, how many forum sections we have??? for 1 editor???

TCA, they can rearrange the site but not their mentality. The showcase will be poor the same as the "old" site.

ah ah are you joking! so our works aren't so good to compete with their "L-type" game???
Ma fammi il piacere, rincoglionito.
it is a true they need to sell their product to stay alive, and it's right, yes, but by the hell make the ones who bought your program to let be proud of what they make, even if it is a sh*t.

Yeah, that really bugged me. The TGC site is nice, but the brunt of it isn't updated when new things come out; the tutorials section, the DLL downloads, the showcase, and the DarkBASIC Pro section should all be updated to reflect the times, but they're not, and that's got to be hurting sales. I don't think a redesign is in order but it needs to be kept up to date.

Just my two cents

True, but I don't think TGC is particularly fussed on the 'after' support given to the community.
I mean we sit waiting for new sites that are in development alot longer than anyone realises, when all we actually want are little updates to the current forum and for the current site to be maintained.

If Microsoft intended for everyone to reinvent the 3D Wheel every-time they wanted to add new features to thier games, they would never have invented DirectX. (alright so that's a stretch on the truth put out to cover up thier own mistake, but it makes the point nicely)

This is like, I got the new newsletter as soon as I got home. It said about Update 5.8 being available... So I checked the site.
No Update. I checked the Beta section, No Update.

There is no 'news' page, where we can catch up on what TGC and the community is up to in a nutshell. So you have to trawl the forums.
That some features of only work on some browsers and other features only work on other browsers.. meaning in order to view it properly you have to keep switching between FireFox and Explorer.

Now, quite frankly this is bad form of it's own. I don't care what the Webmaster prefers to use now.. The forum, and site should be available to everyone the same no matter what broswer they are using. It is quite insulting to be forced to use one you do not like just to use the forum / site effectively.
All current browser I know of, follow the CSS & XHTML standards closely with only minor niggles; as do they also use PHP pretty much the same. I don't want yet another forum and site redesign, just as I'm getting used to the current one... UNLESS Rich is actually willing to take on-board the advice of someone who understands User Interface Design. (and a full artist for that matter)

It's frustrating having to log-in just to view codebase.
Or having to trawl through several layers of the site just to get to download or tutorial sections.
The showcase isn't really one of the root problems, but it does really begin to show that there is a bit of a lack of coordination of coheasion conserning the community.

Something I've always liked about here is the interaction that the community has provided, but unfortunately.. it seems to be getting lost in the commercialism.

No it said it will be availiable.

Or stay out of the whole mess altogether and stick with IE

True - hopefully the new version will fix this.

I agree %100 with Raven. Except for when TCA said it will be avaible.

...except for when TCA said stick with IE! ACK! How could you possiblly want not to use Firefox/Mozilla!

I'd like to, but some image attachments don't work with IE. But then the codeboxes and layout don't appear to work with FireFox.
It is frustrating needing 2 browsers just to view the forum correctly.

I guess I didn't exactly read the Newletter correctly, but then.. what is the point in putting in it that something is 'comming soon'?
If we had a news page when we visited the main site rather than that silly 'deal' being what your welcomed with, we wouldn't need to know in advance or post release.. we would know as it is ready.

lol gah not back even a full day and already my stress levels are elevated again
got myself a rumble controller from Game today.. so i think i'll have a play with it, I'm quite surprised at Gameware's quality.

Why not ? Its done all the time on TV - Gizmondo has been advertised but its not availiable yet.

Once I get my new hard drives, I may start using Mozilla - but not Firefox.

If you've not had problems then go into the thread about mods, and click on 'View' for some of the pictures on the second page.
They all ask me to download.

What is possibly more annoying about that problem is if you put them in image tags, IE will view them fine.

Technically it should've been available, there is something about the UK market preventing it atm... can't remember what thier site said though. It is out in Ireland and most of Europe already.
There is something that does get on my nerves about the state of stuff in the UK considering we are quickly becomming the last in the chain. And it certainly as hell isn't a language issue, or a compatibility issue.

Probably the power system needs modification and the display system changed accordingly. Unfortunately there is no SDK for it, so I'm leaning towards the Zodiac...

I tried firefox after I saw the helpful little "Get Firefox" thingy in the corner, loaded up the site, discovered I couldn't view code in codeboxes, and buggered off back to IE, simple as that.

Isn't it? Wasn't it? Marvellous!

Bizarre. I've been running Firefox for over a year now and have never had problems with code boxes.

Mozilla Firefox is the most beautiful browser I've ever laid eyes on, faster downloads, system settings protecting, major protection from harmful cookies, faster boot times, and a much more attractive interface than internet explorer. Also, I've never had any problems with code boxes and such, but thats just my experiance.
