Hi everyone!

I am programming a videogame and I've found soume troubles trying to put some lights in my 3d scenario.

I've done some walls using que MAKE OBJECT CUBE and TEXTURE OBJECT commands.
I've also tried to do some walls using Milkshape 3D, and exporting them to .x .
And finally, I did some walls using CartographyShop 4 and exported them as another .x file.

The strangest thing of all is that when I create a light in DB with the MAKE LIGHT command and all that thing, only the "MAKE OBJECT CUBE walls" seem to be affected by it!

Why does this happen?

I've read in many posts that most people use "Lightmaps", that can be made using CartographyShop, but I've never achieved it.

Should I use lightmaps using Cartography Shop 4 or another program (please, tell me which one), or should I use the CREATE LIGHT command?

Thank you all!

So... nobody can tell me anything about that issue? Neither put a link to a tutorial?

I'd been searching for some, but I couldn't find one.

If anyone knows one, please, I'd be very grateful if he can put it because I'm getting sick trying to discover a way to make it work.

This could have been an intelligent sentence.

Freakill,

Sorry nobody responded. I think they were all off flaming each other.

The objects that you're creating in other progtrams don't seem to respond to light as you want, but the MAKE OBJECT objects are? Two things could be wrong.

First (IMHO) you should always explicitly use SET OBJECT LIGHT on each and every object you load or create, and specify if you want it responding to lights in your scene, ambient light, etc. This is just to eliminate any guesswork later and avoid problems from wrong assumptions.

The second thing is the objects you've created (or downloaded) may have screwed-up normals. The tell-tale sign of this is one of these objects sitting next to a MAKE OBJECT-type object and yours doesn't respond to light but the MAKE OBJECT-created object (cube, sphere, etc.) does respond.

To fix this, you'll have to refer to your modelling program's help files and search for "normals". I can only tell you how to flip or fix normals in GameSpace, which probably isn't going to help you much if you're using Milkshape. It's a very common thing to do though 'cause it's a common problem, and one of the many Milkshape users in these forums can help you if you don't see it in the Help.

Lightmaps are just textures using a Lightmap Blend command.
They're static unlike the Dynamic Hardware Lights, not sure why your objects aren't reacting but Clueless is probably right is suspecting it has something to do with Normals.

[shameless advertisement]You could take a look at DeleD 3D Editor. It creates lightmaps and exports to a simple ASCII format you could use (write a convertor for it). It also exports to .X but not with lightmap UV coords (dunno how to achieve that yet).[/shameless advertisement]
