I modeled this not to long ago, and I think its pretty decent. Obviously not super high quality but its low poly and looks pretty good. I really won't appreciate people bagging on it, if you don't like it don't download it. Now, if you have advice for the gun to become better, please tell me . Its not textured because I'm quite horrible at texturing, but if you want to, go ahead.

I have made it available for download if you want to use it in your game or whatever. Please leave some feedback in this thread or email if you do decide to download it. Enjoy

I was wondering...does it really need all that smoothing? Oh and around 2000 polys for a gun isn't low... i think the reason why it's around 2000 is because of all the smoothing you have going on there... i am not flaming on your...just trying to help. take the smoothing down a few nauches and you should have a better looking model and a lower poly count.

Ya, your right. It is now down to 700 polygons and it still looks nearly the same. Is that low poly?

What is it with the high poly guns? - FPS guns should be as low poly as possible, like closer to 500. Being sensible with gun barrels is the important thing, I mean you'd rarely need more than 16 sides to a cylinder, 12 is usually plenty - I think that's where all the polygons are on that M16, it could be cut down a lot. I made a AK47 a while ago for my enemies, I think it was around 230 polygons, this shotgun is quite low poly as well:

It's easy to make guns using a straight on side view image as a reference, and loading it as a backdrop image or textured plain, then you have something to cut around and a start to your texture as well. Using 12 sided cylinders as the barrels, then extruding a polyline for the parts of the gun like the handle, handles can be real low poly remember - although try and get a split through the middle as if it's 2 halves, that way you can easily texture around the handle. It is common to see texture stretching when modelling in this way, I tend to cylinder map the barrels, plain map the sides and the top seperately.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it is neither high quality or low poly. It is 2244 pollies. It has no detail at all and looks extremely ugly (AK-47's are not smooth like that!) and the gun is unholdable (come on, look at that handle. Think while you're modelling!).

Snipa masta, chill out. I've fixed the smoothing on it and it needs work. Did you bother reading this thread

Ya, I know its crap but lay off. Im working on modeling. I'm very new to it. Before you jump in a thread and post a comment like that, read the thread.

Edit:
Oh, and its now 580 polygons...

Looks better. Suggestion... make teh but of the gun a bit bigger on the y axis. and the banana clip needs to not curve so much...after that your almost ready for textures. Keep up the good work.

It should just be as easy as importing it. Why what does it do, give you and error message? (btw the download is to the super smoothe mesh one, not the better ak47) I haven't uploaded the new one yet.

Well depending on the format that the model is in, you should be able to import it from the file menu.

not bad but if you'd got the poly level somewhere in between and kept it looking quite smooth it would have been better. you asked for tips to improve it:
make the handle a bit narrower, there is no way you could hold the gun and fire it with a handle that fat.

a while ago i tried to make one too:
http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=44908&b=3
look at my referency picture if you want to see where you can improve.

edit:mine worked out at about 860 tris, here's refererence pic for you:http://www.nd.edu/~bhenness/AK-47.jpg
this is the reference i used http://www.sovietarmy.com/small_arms/akms_icon.jpg but i modifies the stock a little.
