Hi @all!

I've finished my next project with DBPro:

http://www.3dplanetbuilder.com

Create real planets, asteroids and so on with just a 2D heightmap and textures. Build a planet within one minute!
Planets with real mountains, craters.... - just real surfaces :o)

I hope you like it :o)

I'm looking forward to your feedback.

Happy new year!

I've tried it but I've some troubles: when I load a heightmap other than the blank one, when I push 'make planet' button I get a blank screen (what am I doing wrong?). How can I do asteroids?

[edit] If a big image is loaded for heightmap the programm crashes:
'array subscript out of bounds at line 298'

How about:
- add a ring option (to build rings around the planet like saturn).
- a mouse control for 3d view (right click+drag= rotate planet, wheel=zoom+/-...)
- add a ghost sphere textured to simulate atmosphere.
- a random heightmap builder.

Sorry for my English...

This is a really good idea and I'd be interested in using it to make planets for my own project. However, I have to admit that I have reservations about the price tag.

@french gui:

...sorry for the problems! Heightmaps are limited to 1024x1024 pixels. But I suggest to use heightmaps with a maximum of 512x512 pixels (262.144 vertices). They are good enough for a whole planet ;o) and your 3D-software will still run with a reasonable framerate ;o)

You can use the phobos-heightmap as an example to create an asteroid. Use also a radius of 600 and "play" with the color factors to change the value of deforming.

Use 1000 or so as radius for a "normal" planet. Blank screen.... ??? Please mail me your graphics-card type and your pc-configuration. Thank you!

Your suggestions for additional features are great. I'm sure I will realize some of them soon :o)

@Philip:

thank you for the positve feedback :o)
There was an error regarding the price at the website.
It has to be 16,- Euro / 19,- US$. I've allready changed it.

Send me more feedback please.

THANK YOU!

Nice program, couple things i don't like about it though is the sync rate set to 60 or so, camera move's really slow it's either set low or there's a hell of a lot of polys in those planet's, a update showing the poly count of the object would be nice too. If it showed how many polys and the camera was a bit faster i'd be tempted to buy, as it is a nice little program. Anyone else have the camera creeping along when trying to view the planets?

@ Zone Chicken:

thank's a lot for your comments!
I've updated the program now.
- camera speed is much faster now if you combine cursor keys with the CTRL key!
- no restrictions in framerate anymore :o)
- number of polygons on the bottom of the control panel.

Please send me feedback if you like it ;o)

Greetings!

Ok a couple more question's if you don't mind. Do you plan on supporting the product as in more version's with update's and if so if are the update's free to those that buy now or, let's say you buy version 1.0 and 2.0 come's out will you have to buy 2.0 as well to get the added feature's it has?

And then one more thing i would like to see added would be a reset camera to it's orginal position something like r on the key board cause several time's while the planet was rotating and i was looking at the surface i rotated the camera out away from the planet and lost the planet and had to spend some time looking for it.

@Zone Chicken:

- all updates are free regardless of the version!
- I allready thought about a camera reset :o)
- I'm going to include the reset function tomorrow. It's 3:15 AM here and I have to go to bed now ;o)

Thank's for the questions and suggestions!

Good night!
