I don't use Milkshape, but it can export and import in a variety of files. You can import Doom 3 meshes and others. It is not the best software, but it is pretty good.

Milkshape 3D is a modelling program that is very cheap($25) and can do almost anything you like. I have modelled many good things in Milkshape 3D. It is a very easy program to use and has many features. Although it is lacking in some areas, such as splines and the sort, it is a very useful program that could end up being a program that will be very very very widely used in many areas of the gameing industry.

[edit]- Here is some of my work in Milkshape 3D

I love milkshape, I have tried 3D studio max, and I preffered this over that anyday, why? Because it skips all the useless mumbo jumbo crap and gets you down to the nitty griddy modelling! It is so easy to use to!

Using milkshape has been like a dream, except the fact that my demo timed out. I enjoyed the versatillity as well as general support and learning capability. In my oppinion, milkshape's quality/work-amount ratio is much much higher than anything else I've seen.

Well, I'm trying aren't I.....

Think I paid $25 or $30 bucks for Milkshape, whatever the amount was it was a steal IMHO...

Also for what it's worth, i use gmax (free) to get the basic shapes of my models then convert to Milkshape to tweak, animate, and export in x format...To do this you need a gmax plugin, but I learned modeling on 3dsmax so using gmax to get me started is faster for me...(for now)

Milkshape is useful for animating and exporting.

But compared to 3DS Max it is like modelling with tinker toys.

I use 3ds max, but have glanced at Milkshape. Milkshape is one great modeler for the money. Also with my tests it beats 3ds Max for it's DirectX .X export hands down.

how much is 3ds max?

Video games…they can take you places unreachable, impossible, unfeasible. They put you in the book...they put you in the movie...they put you in a world, a world that before could only be imagined.

The retail price for a commercial license is $3495.
The cost for an educational licenses ranges between ermm $600 and $1000 i believe. ALOT of money, ild only pay those kinda bucks if i was a PRO and filthy Rich.

I believe most people steal it to be honest, unless they make a living out of it.
