Hi,

Does anyone know if installing the Direct X SDK will slow down the performance of games I already run (Half Life 2 for example). I was thinking that the SDK may replace dll's that are already installed with debug versions and therefore putting the SDK on another partition may be wise?

cause that will slow everything down

Used to be Phoenix_insane registered in september 2003 despite what the date says to the left <--

Dxdiag says that there are quite a few "Final Debug" versions installed, even though I didn't get a choice between Debug and Release when installing.
The Direct X Control Panel says that the release dll's are currently enabled. Most of the debug dll's end in "d" except for d3dref9.dll, d3dref8.dll and d3dref.dll

Found the following in the readme, hopefully the debug dll's shouldnt be a problem

Upon installation of these versions of the DirectX runtime, DXDiag.exe will report that the debug versions of the files have been installed and will give the following notice:

"Several files (d3dx9d.dll, d3d9d.dll) are Debug versions, which will run slower than the Retail version."

Note that this is only applicable when the Debug switch in the DirectX control panel is applied. Setting all the switches to Retail in the DirectX control panel will configure DirectX to perform just as the normal version of the End-User Runtime.
