Any idea yet what size the EXE for a typical (couple of levels, decent amount of detail) game will be? Are we talking greater than or less than 50 MB? I know there are many variables, but a rough idea for a simple freeware game would be great.

Also, is the EXE file compressed as far as possible, or will Zipping it make it smaller?

- The executable itself is always 10MB
- Including the media folder the total is around 50MB
- Compressing exe+media folder makes a big difference

However, since most of that 50MB will be the same for all FPSC games, I wonder whether it might be possible for an FPSC 'runtime' to be created (exe plus common media) so that users only have to download it once and thereafter download only files relevant to a specific game.

Hmmm. That sounds interesting.

However, I thought everything got compiled into one EXE like T3DGM. Since it doesn't sound like the case, is there any kind of "package and deploy" feature to create installs, or does the EXE and a folder just get created that has to be zipped up?

Rob - Thanks for your quick response.

Well you could always use a third party software package such as innosetup or installshield to make your installation package.

thats damn small.
if I put in my own .wav files etc, would the EXE compress them once I complied the game? (sorry, I'm not too up on programming) or is it better just to use a compressed sound format such as mp3 for compression.

At the moment there isn't any kind of "Package and Deploy" feature, you just have to zip-up the contents of the game folder.
