Not exactly unlucky. Pretty much any name you choose is already going to have been taken in some way, just do a google. I bet there are at least another 100 (or more) groups/teams/companies called "Nuclear Software" or "Nukesoft". You just have to live with the fact .

Isn't it? Wasn't it? Marvellous!

I did a search on Neofish a couple days back. After 22 pages of results there were 4 not relating to me: one was something Japanese, a company or something (it wasn't a person), the rest were other people. So the majority of 22 pages were to do with me

you think you got it bad? I can't have www.dodo.com because some airline company took it. Duh!

Part of solving the problem is actually noticing that the problem is there in the first place

So you were actually serious about creating a company (and not just a an after school effort where everyone will have massive arguments and *nothing* will ever be finished, just like well practically all of the rest of us), and yet didn't do a simple internet check? Erm....

Oh, and considering the amazing amount of combos you can make out of 2 or more words, then it's not exactly hard. Erm, how about InvertedHair.com? Surprisingly no.... Although google brings up interesting topics about correcting your inverted nipples... erm.....

Oh, and half seriously, half not, how about Changeable soft, or Like the weather soft, or perhaps Here today software. Pretty apt really...

Cheers

I don't think it will make any difference to you. Obviously if you want to call your domain nukesoft.com then you won't be able to. But you could still use .co.uk, .net etc if they are available.

I think that unless the name is registered as a company i.e. in the UK nukesoft ltd, nukesoft plc etc which are legal entities in business law or used as trademarks, registration marks then you can call yourself anything you want.

If you want to be unique then change your name - if you are happy to be another nukesoft then keep it.

One thing you could do is have a link to each others site saying if you want the UK/USA/Lunar/Martian etc nukesoft click here if all parties agree.

Well, if the problem is that you want that specific dot com, then change your name. Otherwise, like I said, a name is probably never going to be original (unless you use really obscure combinations of words ). Nukesoft is probably one of the more common names, don't be shocked that someone else took it, I could've told you that without even looking nukesoft.com up.

Isn't it? Wasn't it? Marvellous!

Dude, stuff companies on the other side of the planet, you aren't even known much on this forum. Apart from changing your name *all* the time. I wouldn't worry about it unless you actually start selling something. And even then probably only if in the shops. If you are like just about all of the rest of us then nothing will come of anything you make. And if you are a team (or a "software house" - got to laugh at that one) then you will almost definitely split up (prob because one of you is too lazy, or something happens, like jobs, college, women, beer etc).

Worry about something more important instead.

Cheers

ya know what annoys me is there is a company stateside who have Raven.com, and despite several talks with them about it ... they point-blanky refuse to give it up.

now this wouldn't be annoying if they were actually trading on it but : well just look at it http://www.raven.com
just pisses me off seeing it sitting there unused

I don't understand why you consider yourself so important. I mean, getting annoyed because someone wont give up a domain name? Thats just stupid.

Checked out Raven.com:

I hereby start the "Raven Domain Space Fund Collective Ltd". We are already a registered charity. (Registered Charity Number: 1047563347). If i can be bothered i will set up a paypal thing for donations. Then donate none of the money to buying "http://www.raven.com".

Just doing my bit.

heh...yeah...i was luckysmart() enough to choose "Hellmuth Arts" which is my last name+"arts" (lucas arts )

and since nobody who doesn't have "hellmuth" for a last name(and i think it's a extremely rare name) would make a site called "hellmutharts" i got my own .com site

BTW raven...is that why you changed to "Leyvin" ???

i can understand them not giving it up...but i bet it's sure stinks to have them using it (seeing as they have no idea how to make a website)
