From Lee's Friday (Jan. 12th) diary:

Quote: "Spent Friday working on the installer, two sample games and the serial code system. All went well and had my first Release Candidate version uploaded by midnight. Now around 1AM and thinking of uploading RC2 with the serial code system implemented for further testing. I doubt anyone has even found RC1 yet. The only remaining issues for me are in the realms of game speed, resource consumption and editing transition speed between map and test level. The rest are really just tweaks now as the functionality is solid and useful, and possibilities spring up every day meaning we have to be firm and move the idea to the V1 pile. Hopefully I can address my concerns quickly and painlessly in the week to come. We shall see. Been a long day, going to chill now and MAYBE play a game and eat a pizza."

So very very close!

Lee deserves that pizza after being cloistered away so long working on this thing. Maybe we should chip in and send him a keg too

Poor sod still has to suffer through V1, the physics pack, the mountain of undiscovered bugs and bitchy forum members (myself at the top of that list)

Trust me after spending a lifetime in IS/IT (in the states we call it Information Systems or Information & Technology) the number #1 lesson is - it ALWAYS pays to bribe the programmer!

of the possibilities.

The EA release is still on schedule for January, but beta testing is on-going so it depends what further showstoppers are found.

Hello,

I really strongly advice to TGC to deal with all the bugs which will be reported before releasing a final product. TGC has enough of bad reputation of delivering buggy products in the indi game community. Please consider the opinion of beta testers as much as you can. And the FPS Creator is for me the last chance to stay loyal to TGC.

Have a nice day,

Tomaz

bugs, bugs, bugs.

It would be nice if there were no such thing, though I dont know of any engine without bugs.

You will be lucky to find any official release indie engine without bugs of some kind as thats the nature of the beast....development of game engines is by and large an ongoing thing and therefore most are never what you would class as either complete or finished, or 100% bug free.

If you want to wait until all bugs are found and treated which is what we all want as I am sure we dont want the bugs - even when its declared bug free and released - there will probably still be some found at a later stage as some tend to pop up on specific individual system set-ups and dont show up on others.

It seems that TGC are indeed intent on crushing all known bugs and not rushing to release FPSC at all - highly commendable.

I am sure that the EA FPSC will have as few as TGC can reasonably be expected not to find in beta testing. If there are none at all that would be great and a bonus. Any that might be found to be widespread I am sure will be squashed as progression towards the official full realese is made, though as further additional functions and features in the full version apparently may be made then other bugs may then become prevelant - some bugs may be inevitable and ongoing for some time until FPSC becomes a mature and stable program. If you want to wait until its mature and stable then you have a long wait. Thats the reality I think.

As stated many times here developing a game engine is an extremely difficult task. 100% bug free on all systems almost impossible.
