does anyone know how i would go about setting my computer to turn on at a certin time and then off again at another time?

im guessing it might have to be done through the bios, or is there as program?

all power pc macs and higher do it natively.
Never seen it on SGI or SUN machines.
Only one of my pcs does it natively.

looks like there is software but this particular one costs money.

you will find a new one for free if you spend the time

If no-one gives your an answer to a question you have asked, consider:- Is your question clear.- Did you ask nicely.- Are you showing any effort to solve the problem yourself

Do it in the bios. All of my machines have option to startup after power outage. Buy a lamp timer and plug your computer into it. Remember to shut down your computer when finished (and turn off the timer) and it will restart when the timer cuts on awaiting you when you get home. Lamp timer = appx $6 US I don't see how software can turn on a pc as it will be shut down, so how is the software running? Unless you have wake by lan set on in the bios and another computer starts it up. Or does the software run in the system memory like the clock when turned off. This will make it very small in size hrm. Of course I might just be too sleepy to see how

If you have an Award / Pheonix Bios with an ATX PSU, then you have Advanced Power Management and the ability to setup 'Wake-up' Events.

Usually this is under 'Alarm' but you can set it to wake up to other things. I have my Laptop set to boot up at 6:00am and when Windows starts it logs onto BBC Radio One to wake me up.
I just have to move the mouse and it all shuts down to Hibernation mode again (which is useful as I usually do it while picking it up heh

You can usually setup the events for everything. They were added to *every* Bios that can *only* use ATX PSU... So if your Mobo is newer than '98 then really it's there and your not looking hard enough. Check the manual for your mobo as they explain where everything in.

There is also a program called The Terminator (which I use a fair bit), which switches the machine off after a certain number of hours & minutes have passed.

Very useful.

Most BIOS's (except early ones) should be able to turn the computer on. They cant turn it off though.

Besides, you did ask if there was a program that does it.
