Specificly, this daily occorance:

An application crashes your computer, but the mose still moves and you can hear those damned Windows sounds when you press a lot of keys, and NumLock turns the NumLock light on and off.

It's like a stranger coming into your house, and you giving them a nice, sharp, knife that's a foot long and not looking at them afterward.

Windows is you.
Your computer is the house.
And an application is the stranger.

Numlock turning off and on is specifically related to the keyboard independently, and not windows if i remember correctly.. So long as your keyboard is receiving power.

On another note, i quite like windows xp.. I've only had it crash once or twice in the last 2 years i've had it... Most stable OS i've used.

Yeah, but the one reason I love XP. EVERYTHING works on it. Only stuff I've had problems with are programs that use DOS interupts and Windows libraries at the same time.

Yeah, ME sucked. It could've been excellent (NT stuff on top of the old Win9x series) but they messed it up too much.

Well, what do you need? There's a couple programs that allow you to run Windows programs in Linux. There's Wine (www.winehq.com) which emulates the Windows API and Bochs (http://bochs.sourceforge.net/) which emulates a whole 'nother computer. There's a version of Wine that gives you DirectX support but costs money if you just need Windows for games.

I HATE TEH LOTS OF PANCAKED.

EDIT: Windows rocks. Linux is the suck... but I guess it's OK. At any rate, Linux in old! They have no motivation to update the software (because it's free).

I'm sticking with Windows XP, and even ME isn't that bad...

Erm-- Linux is being updated every day by more people than Microsoft could only imagine. The motivation, instead of monetary, is for bragging rights to see your name in the credits.

Uh, can i ask why all you noobs blame windows when an application crashes? Its probably something you put on there, or something you pirated that wasn't very well cracked. Win XP is actually very stable

i haven't crashed for several months. The last time i crashed was because of the XviD codec trying to draw previews (dunno what happened there, but i just got the latest version and it all works)

I see nothing wrong with windows. With all the updates, Windows XP is a pretty stable operting system. It's all the crap people fill it up with today.

The crashes are annoying, but I don't think anyone can truly hate Windows.

You get some 'glory supporters' for Linux. They constantly go on about how it's best, how everybody should use it. But at the end of the day they're sitting there on a Windows PC anyway.

I was playing an old game(that uses DirectX 7, and is for Windows), and if I play it too fast or something, it crashes(note: it isn't pirated)... The cheepness of it is that Windows still responds.

There are quite a few older games which dont work for windows xp... Command and Conquer red alert/counterstrike etc dont work on it, neither does deathdrome etc..

It's a software problem, not a windows problem.. you cant expect it to be COMPLETELY backwards compatible.

I think you should stop complaining. If you hate it so much then use something else. Actually... don't. You'll only complain when you can't do half the stuff that you take for granted in windows, then you'll come back and ruin valuable seconds of my life by complaining once again. Just throw your computer out the window. If you hate a person then you don't talk to them, if you hate your computer, then don't use it, and stop annoying me.

I HATE YOU!
and you.

Unless your name is jimmy.

Peace and love.

I'm pretty sure Wine emulates the registry as well as the API layer. Also, most open-source OSes are free and the newer ones have pretty good hardware compatability. I'm typing this on a dual-boot Red Hat 9 and Windows XP machine right now and have had no problems except with my video card because Red Hat 9 is obsolete and doesn't support the newer ones. If you want to try Linux out I'd recommend Fedora Core (http://fedora.redhat.com/) since it has great hardware compatability, is one of the most popular Linux distros, and completely free.
