Hey All,

I've been reading in these forums for quite a while now and really admire how everybody is so generious, one post that comes to mind is somebody selling 3D weapon packs for a buck fifty just so the everyday programmer can afford 'em.

To the point, I'd like to do the same for animated characters, but I can't just post still images because you could end up paying for something that moves like c**p, and I'd like to give a little more freedom of view than looped animations. So I thought I'd write simple programs that people could download, all it would do is load the 3D character in question and let you rotate around it and play the different cycles.

Here is a link to a demo of what I was thinking.

http://www.themillerhood.com/rtd/PinoRTCDemoSetup.exe

For the real thing there would of course be many more cycles and the .x file would be embedded into the executable, if you decided to buy I would offer a single .x with all animation cycles as well as individual .x files for each cycle (just incase you didn't want to import such a huge file). As well as the texture file as bmp and jpeg.

So here are some questions.
1. First off, do you think this is a stupid idea?
2. Would people just extract the 3D content from the executable some how rather than pay for it?
3. Would you pay $2.50 for an animated character with the basic cycles (walk, run, die, attack, and a few misc anims)

Sorry for the rough interface of the demo file, but it is still just a WIP of course.
And sorry about the massive post

Hey, that's not too bad an idea. I don't know about charging $2.50 for a single character though. Maybe 2 - 3 full characters. Anyways, I think this is what the community needs.

A company that I use, "House Of Moves" has a similer product that you can download and then use that product to view motions you wish to purchase. You see a motion of a "stick figure" and not an actual mesh.

1) Yes, I think it is a great idea.
2) Most Definitely.
3) Personally, no I would do them myself.

I have over 600 animation files, so let me know if things start to get too big for you.

Okay, that sounds reasonable

Yeah, PayPal is what I was thinking.

And what do you think of the whole interactive demo thing, do you want more functionality than rotation and different cycles? What sort of max file size would you be willing to deal with, obviously the more animation in a .x file the bigger it gets.

I don't think file is really an issue, as .x files are simply text, they don't ever get toooo big. Especially since broadband is ever more common.

As far as interactivity, I think it would be very cool if you devised some sort of test enviorment or many game in which you run the characters around.

***VISION!****

A small 3d game world with all the objects/character you have available for purchase (saying you've already built quite a few) with a "Purchase Code" above it. That'd be coool.

haha, enough of me
