I really don't understand. This cool 'exclusive deal' means that French users will never be allowed to buy online (here at TGC website) FPSC in any versions? or just the EA?

Sorry for my English...

I believe that French users will get the full boxed version first though.

EDIT: Rich has confirmed that this is *not* the case.

who cares, its not like they will KNOW you are French. Basically, focus has a deal that THEY cannot sell to people in France, or else it will damage the contract, but if people from France say they're not from France, then the contrac tis not danaged because tgc had nothing to do with it.

I'd wait for an official comment from TGC before you get too excited.

How is that digusting?

The French contract I assume means that Focus have exclusive publishing rights to FPSC in France.

So TGC can't sell the EA to people in France.

The French will however be able to obtain the full boxed set when it comes out everywhere else, via Focus.

Nothing too disgusting there.

Yes - well, they have exclusive rights to it in France anyway.

Although our system will only check your country when ordering - be wary of giving a fake postal address. Our bank will flag the order as fraudulent because it doesn't match the card details and it'll be rejected automatically.

If you're in France wait for V1 to be released.

I can truly understand French gui and his feelings.

Not many here from any other country would be pleased if they could not get a copy of the EA.

Its seems to be a difficult enough task for all of us to even wait for a release date - which hopefully is now on the horizon.

Disgusting is is a very emotive word and perhaps not the right choice.

TGC have commercial decisions to make and unfortunately for French people they have to bear a cost for that decision.

Disgusting - I dont know - Unfair certainly - lifes like that

David...

Wow! Talk about people needing to actually read a post before they comment. If you'll read it again, I was clearly refering to the quoted comment about the French getting v1 "first".

Perhaps TGC might be able to negotiate with the French publisher so that people could buy the EA version through the publisher's website?

@fdecker

Once again, wait for an official comment from TGC first. I don't want to cause a furore unnecessarily.

The French will NOT get V1 first at all. But they have already licensed it, which means French guys will get a localised version (translated) available in their local stores, etc. We will retail an English version on our site. Other countries will follow.

I'm happy to see that some people understand how hard it is. 'Disgusting' is perhaps too emotive, I don't know. Can you imagine you're French? Imagine other people doing some cool games, talking about what could be improved, what can be added, when all you can do is to see some screenshots! More, I'm sure it will take ages to translate FPSC and to make the product ready to sell (and maybe more expensive...). Nether on Focus website nor on the French game creator website (link on the DBP page here) there's a shadow of a little article (it's updated every decades: the hot latest new release is DBP!!!). French people aren't supposed to know that FPSC exists? And about eventual updates? Will there be the 'exclusive deal' banning? Will we have like in DBP ide 50%French 50%English translations? I have tons of questions but I'd prefer stop it because the 'deal' is done and no one both at TGC and Focus cares about us.

Sorry for my English...

This situation is not ideal but we are contractually signed not to sell into France. If we had not done this deal two years ago then we would not have had some funding from the French publisher to help us create it.

Lee and I will be meeting with the French in February, we will see if they are open to us selling online to French users via their site (but I am not sure they will be).

The translation will not take a great deal of time, it's the V1 code that will take the main time.

We do care about all our users - this is just a legal issue that we are being careful not to fall fowl of.

Yes, but first I don't like this (unless someone at TGC allows me to do it), second I think I will have troubles later to upgrade to the final version or updates.

Maybe, maybe not. If they order it then all you would have to do is at the time V1 comes out is to pay them the rest to get the V1 version. Then you shouldn't have problems getting updates after that.

theres a really easy way of doing it if you are desperate:
"donate" some money to TGC and ask if they can give you a copy "for free". Thats how corporations operate all over the world.
