hi,

i've got a sound problem which i believe the technical name is "drop out", basically i play music and i get a random high pitch click like noise and i was wondering if anyone knew how i could get rid of it

system specs: athlon xp 2000+, 512mb, asus a7v8x-x motherboard

i forgot to mention - this is my third set of speakers, and they all do it

to rule out somethings, it's not the encoding to wma thats causing it as they play all right on my brothers laptop and my dads computer

it's not the speakers as i have tried them on my dads computer with the same music and the drop-out doesn't occur

its intergrated and is also intergrated in to my dads motherboard (although different motherboard model)

its supposed to be a high quality intergrated sound (sound max)

i'll use one of my linux disks and try to see if it ocurs in linux

That could be any one of a hundred different causes unfortunately.
- Corruption of the sound files will cause it (I have a few mp3s that pop and click due to corruption)
- It's unlikely to be your speakers as they will either get quieter or distort or lose a frequency range. They won't create their own random freq clicks.
- It's very possible its your sound card. It could be damaged in someway, or you may need to update your drivers. (DirectX or specific sound drivers)
- It could be your player which may cause problems if corrupt or incompatible with your sound card.

There could be many other reasons. I had a similar problems when another item of software was conflicting with my player. Try a new player aswell.

i've tried many different players and they it happens on all of them

so it isn't:

my speakers
the songs
the player

am i right in saying that it's being caused by a confliction of some sorts?

check your wiring, make sure they dont touch power cables or other cables that carry higher voltages.

i'll check my wiring later - i've just flashed my bios to the latest version hopefully that will solve it

i've tried loading it into linux but it won't play any music so thats that idea gone

thanks for your help, if you have any ideas then please suggest them

just thought - my sound cable travels right next to my voltage cable, that supplies power to my printer, scanner, computer, television and other items

but wouldn't it be constant if it was a power interferance - my problem is very random

I had a problem a while ago with what sounded like an irregular knocking sound running through all my songs. I had a codec pack installed so uninstalled it and all was well. Never got round to isolating the offending codec though

only xvid and divx are the ones that i've installed, but media player might of installed some in the background

What files are messing up? Go and buy a brand new cd from a shop, play that and if it still makes a clicking noise...

Buy a new sound card: Audigy 2 ZS. Problem is probably because your using crappy old integrated sound or the source files are bad. My surround sound kit makes clicking noises if you use dirty or scratched discs, so always check the source file first.

most likely the onboard sound drivers not playing nice with OS. See if there is a newer mobo sound driver for your mobo and OS. I just built a new machine am currently using the onboard audio (sacrelig). It sounds ok and hasnt given any trouble, but I find myself longing for that SBLive card over there on the shelf... {shiver}
