I'm just starting a new level and have the following 2 pics showing the start room. Attached is the sound that plays when the game starts. (It's been converted to mp3 so that it's smaller) The audio file was generated using a Text to Speech engine with free voices (The MS One) so are not quite the same as having an Actor do it, but it enables low budget story telling. The speech will give you an idea about what is happening at the start of this one.

@MaddA ChieF, I just bought a tool which creates wav files from and text to speech engines that are SAPI4/5 complient that you have on your machine. (This one is called 2nd Speech Center). Then the wav files are joined using a wave editing tool. (You could use windows sound recorder to do this)

This is the next 2 rooms, I've created another sound event at the desk which I've attached as an mp3.

The latest screenshot says "press "Enter" to use".
Does that mean that we can have a use key
to activate different things like buttons and doors
or does it work like quake were you press buttons and
open doors without pressing a key on the keyboard?

BTW: Realy nice mood in these screenshots.
I like what i see.

This is due to me being backed up to a door where you need to "Use" it to open it. But you can have switches buttons etc where you can "Use" them.

It will probably say "press x to use"
where x is the button that you set for
the use key.

I'm pretty sure that you can edit this via the scripting language.

I should remember that... you can easily make a robot-ish person speak with that tool.

thx, and those images really look good. FPSC is very impressive, hope many good games are made with it.

You know that "press enter to use"? That was my idea

In the original version when you had a locked door it would do nothing if you waled up to it - for the all player knows it could have been a bug. There was no indication of whether it had to be unlocked etc.

Now it says "you need a key to unlock this door" - much better. Also, I suggested that you could give keys 'names' and when you tried to open a locked it door it said "You need key xyz".

Its an FPI command, so I think you can remove it.

They might get tired of people asking. They will probably
post more if we ask less.

Yup, start off thinking you are in a ww2 cell and end up blasting lasers

Well, from just that tidbit, you've got me interested in your game. I'm imprisoned in a WW2 facility or am I...? Hitler was actually an alien bent on world domination !

What makes you think its a WW2 room. It could be any concrete cellar. Are there no concrete rooms in the future?
And what lasers.
I actaully got the SCIFI vibe direkt from the start.

Well i love the screens and the feel anyways.
I like the 5th one most. Got nice light/dark
and has got some form of more advanced structure
in the ceiling then just a flat ceiling.

@Nolder, I just ment I was using the WW2 scenery, though I could have worded it better . The red light in the first room and surprise container of green goo a bit later on are the first signs of something a bit out of place. (I happened to be watching an epsiode from SG1 where there were tricked into thinking they were on their base when they weren't the day before)

Been playing with vent sections tonight and adding more baddies. I'll leave a full lightmapping running over night and see what happens. (Though the first time you do this you usually realise all the lights are in the wrong place )

I probably got the SCIFI vibe mostly from the
voice at the start of the map (shot 1)

Iknow this is off-topic but:

SG-1 rocks! I have all 7 seasons currently released in the U.S. on DVD and I'm recording season 8 on VHS. I've seen too many episodes which one in particular are you talking about?

Do you guys have Stargate: Atlantis across the pond?

Now is the winter of your discontent.

Of course I have the SG1 series on DVD. That aside, television is a natural source of inspiration for game developers. Old Star Trek, Farscape, Buffy The Vampie Slayer. Whatever prims the ol' creativity pump. I, too, got a distinct Sci-Fi feel from these pics.

One might need to play up the WWII atmosphere more in the beginning in order to really establish the quasi-normal before shifting to the sci-fi aspects.

Sure, you're good enough. Who said you weren't? My point was that if someone is starting out with a WWII scenario with the intention of shifting over to a Sci-Fi scenario then the WWII aspect needs to be really detailed and convincing in order to generate the emotional impact when the Sci-Fi elements are introduced later.
