You can download the latest version of the game here: http://zokomoko.antdizzle.com/StarTrekRPGBetaInstaller.exe
You can all thank Antdizzle for that

The demo wieghts about 68 megs, so it'll take some time to download.

In the demo, you'll play as the federation ship voyager.
You are being attacked by 4 borg diamond, and 1 big borg sphere.

interface
Notice you'll have a tactical bar on the lower part of the screen.
Each icon on it, represent a different tactic, such as:
Warp - warps to a target
Slipstream - faster then warp, a means of travel to a target.
Multi shot - fires 3 phasers simulantously at a target.
photon spread - launches a spread (3 shots) of photon torpedos
delta flyer - launches a shuttlecraft to aid you in battle

By clicking on the "tactical" button on the lower middle part of the screen, you'll be given a short explanation on what each tactic does.

Each use of a tactic, puts a drain on your reactor.

The rest of the stuff is more self-explanatory:
cargo - inventory
ship - character

battle
The borg WILL attack you, but don't be alarmed, as your shields are MORE then capable to handle their phasers and photon torpedos.
This is because I want you to try out the different features of the demo.

controls
Use WSAD keys to move.
Space - move up
"c" - move down
Upkey - do NOT press it, will cause an error
mouse wheel - zoom in/out
mouse wheel + shift - bigger zoom in/out

important
The current version is not "idiot-proof".
Users who will try to do "stupid things", like try to warp when you're slipstreaming , will be able to.
"Idiot proof" is not yet implemented, so you don't have to test that aspect.

The verion is *not* bug-free, hence this is beta.
Please post any bugs you find, feel free to post any comments or suggestions.

I will be happy to get some input on this.

HAVE FUN

Ok, I totally forgot about that!

download the file attached, an put that in your C:\

It doesn't matter where you installed the game, only this file needs to be put in the C:\

btw - don't press the upkey, it gives an error.
just use WSAD.

Great game Zokomoko. I do think the controls can but different to make it easier on the player, especially the move up and move down keys. The slipstream is a lot slower than warp. And you can't call the Delta Flyer to return to your ship after you have launched it. The warp should be fixed so the ship takes off like in the TV shows. I will do a lot more testing today so these are the first things I noticed.

P.S. I don't know if you have Patch Maker from Clickteam, but that would be better to use instead of uploading the full versions over and over, I need to save some bandwidth.

RPG aspects will be implemented later on.

(1)Have you found any bugs ?
(2)what do you think should be improved ?
(3)what was your average fps, and what are your system specs ?

When I tried to slipstream to DS9 the ship started to spin without stopping and I couldn't go anywhere. I think the collision should be added soon and instead of pressing 'W' to keep up your speed I think there should be something where you press 'W' to speed up but when you let go you don't slow down. So if you press and hold 'W' for one second then you can speed up by 100 units and you hold that speed until you press 'S' to slow down. The game ran at 11-12 fps on my computer, but I'm sure that is because of my bad video card. The game did run at a constant speed and it seems normal, so I'm guessing you have a time-based movement and firing system in the game anyway, here are my specs.

Windows XP Home SP2
P4 CPU 2.53 GHz
256 MB RAM
Integrated Intel Extreme Graphics

And aslo I would like to be a beta tester if you have noticed, I didn't feel like posting in the other thread.

Good idea about the movement thing, didn't think about that.

The bug you mention does exist, I don't know why it occurs as it occurs totaly randomly. My suspicions are that maybe it's a memory issue (256 RAM, and the game probebly needs more), but anyway I'm going to redo the movement system.

Everything is time based.

Top thread in both WIP and PA? Do I detect the faint but pleasant smell of a winner here? Very nice!

I also think the camera should be to where you can see your ship turning. Like if there was nothing around you couldn't tell if you were turning with the current system. It is really confusing for me because I can't tell where I am when I am playing the game.

Here's a patch : http://zokomoko.antdizzle.com/startrekthemedrpgpatch.exe

This verion focuses more on the AI, i've implemented new AI aspects that need to be tested. so you won't fight the borg in this one.

(1) It will fix the crashing issue (see 2nd post on this thread)
(2) camera will not automatically rotate with the ship (it looks better that way)
(3) cloak is implemented
(4) Voyager and delta flyer were replaced by the Dauntless and a type 5 shuttlecraft
(5) The shuttlecraft should follow you around, and warp with you.
(6) deep space 9 will is not recognized as a station (it's intended)
(7) A new station introduced, the outpost station (looks really cool)

I'll check it out. I have 2 machines I'm willing to test it on.

CPU: AMD 2400+
Memory: 1G PC3200
Card: Geforce FX 5700 LE 128MB (I think )
OS: XP Pro

CPU: AMD 2800+
Memory: 512MB PC3200
Card: Geforce FX 5200 128MB
OS: XP Home

EDIT:
Did you update the install to include all the changes in the patch.
That would make things easier.

It works ok on my machine the 2400+. I like the wark and Slipstream effects. I want to see your code

Oh and about the battles you are going to have to add in missing or some sort of gameplay rule to allow for missing. Or the weapon should do less damage if you are moving a certain way so it isn't as affective.

But this is really cool. I wish it wasn't 2d though. I have the urge to just fly around.

I like it though. There are still some bugs with the turning. The controls are sluggish and if you turn sometimes everything goes crazy in the view port but I'm sure you are going where you are supposed to.

I think average fps was 99 untile I moved then it was in the mid 80s.

The 2d aspect can be improved by changing the depth in different areas so we can get different views.

Cheers

One thing I've gotta do is to change the controls.
The movment is not 2d, it's 3d.
Spacebar- up, "C"- down.
I'll change it towards the next patch.

and yes, there will be missings sometimes, and battles will be more complex.

the game feels very professional

a bug: the targets for the borg and ds9 (and i assume other targets if there are any) show up on the opposite side of where they are, as well as their real location. so you can target them in front of you, shoot htem, and the laser goes behind you to their real location

my fps was 140, with a 2.52 ghz 768 ram radeon 9500/9700

also shouldnt you be able to target planets and warp to them?

the solar system seemed kind of..compact

Unfortunately, Zokomoko has stopped working on this project. However, the source code to this project is included in the download of the demo. It will stay hosted on my website indefinitely. And Tylerdx you have to download the bitmap file from the third post of this thread. Oh and the game has exactly 4993 lines of code.

Is there anyone out there that would like to continue this project? I wouldn't want to see something as good as this go to waste. The source code is provided in the download and you have the permission of Zokomoko to use it.
