I am pleased to announce my entry in the recent Unnoficial "January 2005 DarkBasic Primitives Competition"

My game is called 3D PRIMELEON

http://www.scotttown.com/games/primary3D/

OBJECTIVE: You must collect the different color coins on each level, and avoid being caught by the enemy.

You can hide yourself from the enemy by changing the color of your player to blend in with the color of the ground you are on. If the enemy can see you, they will chase you.

You can only get a coin if you are the same color as that coin.

If you're looking for a fun DarkBasic game that isn't a FPS, this is your game!

Thanks!

You know, even though the enemy is just a long black cylinder, it still appears quite sinister! My wife was playing it, and when she saw them chasing her, she screamed aloud!

Nice idea! Not quite sure how such a simple game makes the exe 14mb!

How did you do the cylinders using primitives, as dbpro does not cap the ends. Are they squashed spheres on the ends?

Boo!

@Spooky

Thanks for the compliments!

Here's what took up so much space:

4 Megs of Bitmap files (most of them 24-bit)
8 Megs of WAV files (mono, 16 bit, 44 kHz)

I could have optimized it, and spent more time to make it smaller, but this was for a competition where size was not an issue. But you are right - the program itself is very small. It is about 550 lines of code.

And yes, I used Dark Basic Classic for this entry, so all of the cylinders displayed correctly. The only drawback to using DBC (non-enhanced) was that it doesn't do memblocks (I don't have the enhanced version of DBC, only the boxed version of DBC). If I could read memblocks, I could have made the game run much faster. There wouldn't be that jerkyness which happenes every half second as the program uses the POINT command to read what color you are standing on from a bitmap in memory.
