[/i]Inspector McCrane pressed a weary hand to his brow and interrupted the constable, “All right, I realize that you have done everything by the book. Now, If we could get on to the pertinent facts?”
The constable gave a quick jerky nod and handed him a piece of paper.
“Here’s the alleged suicide note sir.”
McCrane took the paper and read out loud, “To those whom it concerns: I have finally decided that life is not worth the effort. I am sorry for the mess this may cause, but I am really tired of this futile rat race. I sorrow to leave you, dear Mary, and to leave my book unfinished, but as the Bard says, ‘Parting is such a sweet sorrow.’ sorrowfully, Henry Plogger.”
McCrane looked at the constable. “And this was found where?”
“On the table sir, on the top of the manuscript mentioned in the book, “Why Bacon deserves Shakspeare’s Credit.”
“And this ‘Mary’? What of her?”
“She’s his wife, and co heir of his $500,00 estate. The other heir is Sir Tobias Plogger. It’s a pretty straightforward suicide sir. Various friends have testified that he had been drinking to much, and getting more and more depressed. Sir Tobias even says he asked him the cleanest way to kill oneself. The body was found lying on the sofa, holding a glass which contains traces of arsenic. The only fingerprints on the glass are the late Sir Henry’s, and the door was locked. The clues Sir all lead to suicide.”
“All the clues but one, you mean constable.”
What clue is the inspectro talking about?

Why would Sir Tobias reply and do something about it?
Is it something about him being too drunk to lock the door or get arsenic or something?

Sir Tobias was on crack possibly. And he imagined the whole thing.

That's a head splitter. Only guess I can come up with at this time is that arsenic is about the most unclean and horrible way to kill yourself. Not gonna be the answer, but perhaps a floor in the riddle.

Edit: On second thoughts, it's more likely to do with the fact that good old Henry is a writer and obviously a fan of Shakespeare, yet got the quote wrong by adding "such A sweet sorrow" rather than "such sweet sorrow", indicating someone else wrote the suicide note. But seeing as there are typos throughout this riddle, that could be wrong aswell.

Um, is this the same thing that Sly Fox figures out on the kids section of the Newspaper?

I would guess the fact that there's a typo in the suicide note of a writer-- that is, I would if there wasn't also one in the narrative

no, it is NOT the typos...i honestly thought i had got rid of all those. also, it is NOT the mis quote... that is also a typo. and no, it is not "slylock fox" i will post the answer later, after some more valid speculation.

My guess is that door was locked from the outside by the murderer and not on the inside as if it was a suicide.

Ok, third guess is the fact the note was placed on the "Why Bacon Deserves Shakespeare's Credit" manuscript, as this manuscript (at a guess) is about people crediting Shakespeare with work actually written by Bacon. Similarly, maybe it is a hint by the real writer of the suicide note that it was not poor old Henry that actually wrote it.

Once again, a wild stab in the dark. None of this shizzle was hold up in court.

A stab in the dark is that you cannot drink very easily if you are lying down, therefore he didnt drink the arsenic

Yeah, that's what I was thinking Mnemonix, I also thought that it may be a little hard to hold onto the glass when there's arsenic going through your system, especially as it's more than likely going to give you a seizure.

thats what i thought at first but he was referring to the non physical mess, but the confusion afterwards and whatever occurances that come up in his business or his wifes life etc because of his death. they havent looked at how he died though, you just assume he took the arsenic.

I suppose the handwriting in the letter could be easily checked agianst that of the manuscript. If indeed both were hand written.

What is the rat race referring to? Is it a rat race between Henry and Tobias. Are they both writing books and Tobias killed Henry?

i was just speculating.

This is it.

How did they get in if the door was "locked" by Sir Henry. Therefore the door must have been locked from the outside. Implying that he wasnt alone when he died. Someone must have locked the door from the outside knowing Henry was inside!

lol..ok flynn told me when he was at my house and i'll give you guys the answer in his place

You got the closest Fallout!

why would he quote "the bard" (shakespeare) in his suicide note if he was writing a book saying that Bacon deserves the credit for shakespeare's work...he would say "to quote bacon"...so it isn't so much a hint left by the murderer as a slip..(seeing as the murderer was too dumb to notice that in no way he would give credit to shakespeare for that quote)

iif any of this makes no sense...then i might be slightly wrong...if i am then flynn will clear it up

I still think I was right, there's no way he'd be able to hold onto the glass if he was having a seizure, clearly the killer forced him to consume the arsenic and then after he had died, placed the glass in his hand to imply suicide.

I agree with Exeat on the glass. I would've expected to see the glass dropped on the floor. In my opinion, there should be two clues that don't add up, not just one.

i enjoyed it to a degree, however my spear chucker isnt quite up to scratch on the knowledge thereof, so ergo i would not have spotted the discrepancy between the manuscript and the letter.

so he buys the game for $10 then sells them for $2, well after selling 5 copies of the one game he would remake that $10, then any copy he sells over 5 would be $2 profit. Aprrently he became rich because there was a huge market for mini mysteries.

edit: just realized you said $10 for each copy, well you could have pirated the copies to make more, or you were already a millionaire to start off with, and run at a loss of $8 each copy sold, but stil flood the market with your product, *cough*microsoft*cough*
