A lightmap is a pre-calculated texture containing lighting information. Every polygon in your world has its own lightmap. Various programs can calculate lightmaps for you, DeleD being one of them.

There is no way that I have found to load lightmaps created in DeleD into DarkBasic. ...that is at least until they get the .DBO exporter functioning. DeleD exports to .X files, which DBPro can load no problem, but there's no way to store the additional texture information in that format...

At least that's how I understand it. Correct me if I'm wrong...

If you can't load lightmaps then why would The Game Creators Sell Giles?

Because Gile(s) saves files in a .DBO format that allows for multitexturing information to be recorded. .X files do not make an allowance for multitexturing.

So can DBC load .DBO formats? Do you know of a way to converter for converting the .X files with lightmaps and textures to .DBO?

Nope... That's why I'm waiting impatiently for the folks on the DeleD project to get the .DBO exporter up and running...

You are absolutely right G-man. Although DeleD can create terrific lightmaps, it can't export them to X. A DBO exporter plugin will be made as soon as we put DeleD 1.0 PRO online, which will be somewhere this week (hopefully!). I don't know how hard it will be to implement a DBO exporter, but I estimate that it will take a few weeks (working in my spare time here).
