A face is a flat surface. If you look at a standard 6 sided dice it has 6 faces.

A face can also be defined as a POLYGON, or a 3 Dimensional plane made up of 3 Vertices. Simply make 3 Vertices, then use the FACE tool to connect them, voila, you have a face. Now make up a whole bunch of vertices and connect them and you have a model

BTW, A standard di has 12 faces

1) Click on Vertex. On the first view, click 3 times to draw a triangle with points.
2) Click on Face. On the view, click on the first point, then the second and the last, then the face is drawn...

Sorry for my English...

if i may give you a little hint: watch out that the faces you make are actually shown grey. if theyre shown black, they are looking in hte other direction and they wont be displayed on this side (this is done so your poor little computer buddy doesnt have to calculate the double amount of polygons (outside AND inside(which normally you wouldnt even see, unless youre planning for a real messy, gory game )). if polygons (=faces) that you are sure you made are not shown 'at all', be sure to check if 'show backfaces' (these are the 'backs of the faces', =the faces are looking the other way) is set to 'on'.
you can change this setting if you rightclick on any of the four views.
the above is important, so that your models wont have holes in them later on ^^
