Hi all,

Some people have been getting an error message with the Download Manager right at the end like the following:

Here are two things to try:

1) Quit the Download Manager and restart it again. See if the Build button now works.

If that fails, try this:

2) Check in the temporary directory where the files were saved (C:/FPS Creator Temp/ by default). You should have 406 files named 1.bin through to 406.bin. Every file should be exactly 1 MB in size except 406.bin which is 588 KB.

If you have all of these then please download the file I have attached to this message (make.bat) and copy it into the directory with all the bin files.

Open up a Command Prompt (Start - Run - type in "cmd" and hit enter)

Go into the directory with all the bin files and type in "make".

This will launch the batch file and stitch together all of the bins into a single ZIP - this takes a while! Don't be alarmed

At the end of the process you should have a file called FPSCreatorEA_r20.zip which is 425,276,160 bytes in size exactly (that's the file size, not the "size on disk").

Use whatever ZIP software you have and extract the contents somewhere - if this part completes without any errors (along the lines of "invalid archive") then you're good to go. Just run the Setup.exe file and InstallShield will commence. Enter your serial number, sit back, make some coffee and enjoy.

If none of the above works for you then please contact me directly.

Cheers,

Rich

A couple of users have reported an error "the input line is too long" when trying to run the batch file mentioned above.

For those users please download the zip file attached to this message and use these batch files instead.

Read the readme file inside the zip file for instructions.

Cheers,

Rich

For the record, 379.bin was only 242 kb. If anyone else has a corrupt part like that, delete that file and all that come after, i.e. 379-whatever the last one is.

Yeah, I'll build in a "corrupt part" check so you don't have to delete all the ones after it.

Just to let you know.....

I started the download on an XP machine, and after the first 4 hours, I had to leave to I copied the files to a Win2000 Server machine and continued the download. It is still currently downloading (19 hours 45 min+) one file 390.bin.

I am going to stop the download and move the files back to my XP machine (they don't like me using the server to download gaming material, silly them!)

Hopefully I should not have the Win2000 issue. I will edit this message and let you know how it goes.

[EDIT]
Downloaded after 20+ hours. Launched and got the "Corrupt File" message. Tried the "make.bat" and still nothing. Check my files and noticed that 102.bin was smaller. Copied all the files ABOVE 102.bin to another directory and launched the Download Manager again. Downloaded 102.bin and stopped. Copied 102.bin over the bad 102.bin and copied the above 102.bin files back over. Launched the installer and all worked beautifully. Thanks!

I recieve the file size error and have tried the solution with the make.bat but it did not rectify the problem. I found two files that had the wrong file size, do you think replacing them will solve my problem? If so how do I download the two files I need?
Thank you

I have a problem where when I unzip the file "FPSCreatorEA_r20.zip" (which is 947MB) the file "data2.cab" does not work, and this means that I am unable to complete the installation.

@bjpage:

Ok, let us say your file that is the wrong size is 102 and 318

a) Copy ALL the files into some temp directory
b) In the original download directory where you had the bad files, delete the first bad file (for example 102) and up. You should now only have 101 files.
c) Run the Launcher and after it gets 102 (and starts 103) stop it.
d) Copy over from the directory you copied to (still with me?) 103-317.
e) Run the Launcher and get 318 (stop when it start to download 319).
f) Copy over the rest and there you go!

Let me know if it confused you.

It should only be 405MB in size - if it is 947MB zipped then something is very wrong somewhere! Check the size of the .bin files - are they all 1MB? (other than the last one) - if not then one got corrupted on the way down so the advice posted above while resolve it while I work on the new downloader. If the advice Cellbloc Studios posted is too convoluted/confusing for you then just email me and tell me which .bin files need replacing and i'll email them to you.

I'm to the part where it asks for your name and serial number, and when I click next the name field is erased and nothing happens.

Am I entering the code wrong or is it something else?

I assume you are entering the serial number we sent you in the email? How many characters long is the serial number you have?

The serial number is 15 characters, both cases of letters and numbers.

I get this screen and enter my name and code, differently of course:

I click next and the screen flashes once and returns to:

I am supposed to enter my own name, not one found somewhere in the email, right?

The file I'm running is Setup.exe with a description of:
InstallShield (R) Setup Launcher
55k size, 56k on disk.

I'm running Windows XP, and i'm not installing it on the computer I downloaded the download agent on because of speed issues. I transfered the download agent to this computer and did everything upto this point.

The setup I have is in C:/FPS Creator Temp/FPSCreatorEA_r20.zip
I have tried extracting everything from the zip and running it but the same thing happens.

And a question, for how long do my posts have to be moderated first?

It should be 16 Email me and I'll generate a new serial for you. It would explain why the installer doesn't proceed, it just errors when validating the serial.

Well I got that new number, and installed it without a problem.

But when I tried to run it...

The map editor could not find d3d9.dll (I think it was a DLL) and closed down, and the main editor shut down a bit later saying nothing more than it had "experienced a problem."

Some other things I didn't mention in the other post:

I tried reinstalling the whole thing, same error.

I also tried the demo game and it could not find d3d9.dll either.

Ok, I followed all the install directions above and succeeded in getting the zip file. I installed the program successfully.
But when I try to launch it I got a .dll error. I downloaded d3d9.dll. Now when I launch I get the following message:

"The procedure entry point DdEntry10 could not be located in the dynamic link library DDRAW.dll."

I click "OK" and get the following message:

"FPSCMapEditor.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows." etc.

And then I crash. I'm working in Win2000.

Thanks.

Marcello's problem is the same as Schnell's - incorrect DX version (or possibly corrupt).
It mat be an idea for the installer to check the DirectX version, and if its not 9.0c, open a web page for the user to download it.

I'm also getting the "Incorrect File Size" error. I've downloaded the entire thing 3 times, and have tried the other steps listed here. My problem seems to be the lack of "make.bat" in the temporary directory. Has anyone else experienced this?

Did they move it?
