GIF is an image file, it's not meant to have sound. Period.

Now, you could always use a program such as Windows Movie Maker to make an avi or mpg. Those are movie formats, which are generally moving pictures like gifs, except with sound

Or you could use swf.

Monkey Shine, the .gif format was never meant to have sound. At all. Ever. Period. Dot Dot Dot. You're probably thinking about a program that takes a .gif, turns it into a .swf (Shockwave Flash File), and adds a sound to it. .swf supports sound. .gif doesn't. Get it through your thick head.

Because the .gif format doesn't support sounds. All it is is a bunch of images cycled through with a specified delay in milliseconds between each frame. It does not and can never support sound.

dude... you never know! I think it's possible..just because you don't beleive it, It doesn't mean it's not true!

and to that one guy.. I don't have proof yet..

also, It may never had supported sound before, but programs today
are pretty advanced...No one has really looked over the situation..

Why would anyone bother modifying a GIF to support sound? Gifs are crap anyway, they certainly cannot support sound.

Edit - GIF: Graphics Interchange Format, where is the sound in that

I'm makin' a cake...

if there were a "stupidest topic of the year" award, this one would take the cake

a gif does not use sound, if there's a gif that does use sound, it is in fact not a gif.

there are many sound+video formats out there, gif ain't one of em

Maybe someone could invent a program to add sound to a GIF..
or maybe someone already did!

I didn't put this up so everyone could say "NO"
I put this up so someone could tell me how!

It's not THAT impossible, so you don't need to tell me I can't do it..

I have reasons to have a GIF with sound, too!

You asked for this...

*grabs Monkey shine by the collar*

You (SLAP!) can't (SLAP!) add (SLAP!) sound (SLAP!) to (SLAP!) a (SLAP!) GIF! (BIG SLAP!)

Get it into your head, will you?

BTW, GIFs are designed to save disk space, aren't they?

I don't think so, I don't think they have much (or any) compression. I should test this, though.

the .gif format is static u can not jsut add sound to a format cause then u edited the format and it isnt a .gif anymore that is your .gif wotn work in any standard image viewer it will onyl work in your own and it also wont work wiht the dbpro load animation u will have to handcode it all

proof:
read this http://www.w3.org/Graphics/GIF/spec-gif89a.txt

copy it into notepad(using ctrl-a) and do a search for sound and it onyl comes up with one hting and that is that it will sound a CONSTANT(nto changabel sound) bell signallign that the gif file expects input from the user which i didnt even know a gif file could do so i may have misread btu anyway

so now everyone shut up about it
and what is even more retard than the author of this topic is all the people who keeps telling him(including me but im rying to end it)

also it woudl eb nice if a mod locked this

my avatar is working for the first time since free-space went down

@ ionstream:

I think they were, because I heard GIF use dithering and as a result, the image is of a much lower quality. Which is why they never should be used for digital photos or stuff like that.

[EDIT] No offence, but check your spelling before you post, Shadows.

Hahaha! I'm not even going to respond. That's like saying somebody should make JPGs have sound.

@Monkey Shine - You can't add sound to a GIF file. Shadows of Emptiness posted the specs for the GIF format:

http://www.w3.org/Graphics/GIF/spec-gif89a.txt

Search for the word 'sound'. If you add sound to an existing format, then it's NOT the same format anymore. Therefore, for the 39th time, you can't add sound to a GIF file.

I'm locking this because there's no point to it anymore as it's just stubbornness from both sides.
