I have many promblems with FPSC. First of all it wont save when I click save. The window doesn't close it just stays the same. I made a huge map and lost the whole thing!

Another thing. Whenever I click the build game button it says intinaliseing (or something like that) the installer. Then it will freeze and will not respond.

FPSC runs a bit laggy too. It takes a long time to load a prefab(ex. it says: Building prefab...).

I don't know if it is my pc or not. I don't know the specs but it is xp. I also know that it is a dell that isn't made for gaming. My pc won't run Joint operations either. It will run Battlefield 1942 a tiny bit laggy.

I don't know what to do. Can somebody please help me?
I realy would like to find the problem and fix it so I can Finally make something without loseing it because something went wrong.

@Madda,

I assume you've already checked for spyware, etc., and updated your video drivers, so try running dxdiag. (Start|run|dxdiag) That will give you your system specs. If you post a screenie of the first page, maybe we can see if you need something upgraded.

Madda chief, something I noticed and really speeds up the proces. Just make the grid which you can see (the black circle), make it as small as possible, then changing between the prefabs menu and the lvl editor goes way faster and you can just make the circle bigger again. Try it...

Changing the black circle's size is explained somewhere in the tutorial. I think it was CTRL + mousewheel (pretty sure)

If you dont know the specs of your pc "MaddA ChieF" then just tell us
what DELL package it is.
Is it a DELL DIMENSION. And then what number?
that would tell us what specs you have if you dont
know how to figure it out by yourselfe.

(not patronising, im just trying to help so dont
get offended by this)

Madda Chief: if you want to know what specs your system has got try this: press start/run and type

dxdiag

then press ok, in the tab system (first one opened)you find some useful information.

I hope these are usefull. I did what you said Chimera.

From what I know that computer is good enough: 2.4 GHZ and 638 MB RAM! Don't know what's wrong hopefully someone else can help

At any rate, check the display tab on dxdiags. It will tell you what video card you are using and how many megs of ram it has. The video card seems to be the leading factor as to how well FPSC will run.

If you don't have an on-board video card, you can upgrade it easily. If you do have an on-board card (the Dell website says you do), you can probably have the on-board card disabled and add your own video card.

I'd be almost certain the video card is your problem. On-board cards are usually bad news.

sorry I didn't know what you meant. So how about this. Thanks Logan 5 and Chimera.

I will see what video card I have. I do know that it is a standard one that comes with a dell. So it might be crappy.

I was a bigger believer in the video card problem yesterday, though. Since then, a couple of people have said FPSC is running great on their systems with only 64 or even 32 megs of ram on the card.

I have a system with an on-board card. Maybe I'll try FPSC on it and see what happens.

This is one big things I totally hate about PCs. Every thing has to meet a requirment! Game systems don't. Every xbox game is compatable with any Xbox. It's mainly cus pcs get updated like crazy! If I bought a pc right now I bet something would be newer and better in the next week or so. I hate that!!! ...

638MB RAM?

I would be very worried about a figure like that - it usually means you've got 1GB of RAM and 362MB of it doesn't work! Not the best sign in the world.

A 2.4GHz PC is ok, but Celerons are much slower than "standard" Pentiums, so do bear that in mind. The deciding factor is nearly always the above combined with your video card - the quicker you can find out what that is then the quicker we can say "hmmm weird" or "no wonder!"

MC,
Sounds like you have onboard video card due to the fact of the amount of ram you have(Shared Ram I bet)
You should probably invest in a new card. If you are strapped for cash, look at the FX 5200 from Nvidia which will help you get going. Don't pay anything more than $100(Not sure what the price is in GBP)
for this type of card. Make sure to look at all the shops. Don't go to the trendy mall store, they charge way more than what it is worth. Check out a local computer store first.

Hey I forgot to metion that The demo game that was called "Where AM I?" worked just fine. it didn't lag at all. The problem can't be my video card can it? Should I delete FPSC and redownload it with the download manager?

Next, Click on the Performance tab and tell us your specs that are located in the "Physical Memory" frame (Total, Available, System Cache)

I already deleted every thing I did not need yesterday and the editor isn't as lagggy. Here are my system specs:

ohh ya. Some of my problems have gone away. Like it will save my map. It also doesn't freeze up when Its building a game. But a window pops up saying "Runtime error 8003 - could not find path at line 1823" I have already metioned that in another thread I made and I don't know how to fix it.
