1. I am running fpsc on my laptop running winXP SP2 with a pentium M 2-3GHz processor, 502 mb of ram, and i think, 64 mb video card. after running fpsc for a little while testing and adding, and retesting my computer goes haywire. there is an error in the program and it has to shut down. anytime i try to run a program like the taskmanage or anything else i get an application error, they all 'FAIL TO RUN". i cant even shut my computer off correctly, when i go to start then 'shut down computer' and click shut down, it wont even do that, i ahve to hold the power button and make it shut off myself, which, by the way, is incredibly bad on computers, especially my laptop. restarting doesnt work, but when i shut down, let it sit, then use it later if works fine. everything else works, then i get onto fpsc and it skrews it up again. i can work for a while but it seems like after adding many lights and doing a lot i get the errors.

2. other problems i have is when im creating gantries adn such, when i make a wall by using a wall and floor combo, then delete the hanging floor(keeping the wall) and then put a gantry in there is a problem, once i delete the gantry the floor i deleted reapears. i have to then pick the floor, delete it, and recreate the gantry.

3. i am also having troubles undoing things. when i make a mistake placing segments and try to undo it it doesnt 'undo'(dissapear). the undo/redo is really skrewed up.

4. also today i went to school and played the game i made on the administer account. it worked fine, but then i went on another computer and got errors while trying to execute the .exe.

5. i created an exe and played it on my laptop(the one im editing with) and it came up with a message saying that my video card wasn't sutable or something to play, and it advised me not to play it on this machine...

6. also, the doors are messed up, when i walk up to them, or look at them from a distance for that matter, i can see gaps between the wall and the door frame. this takes away the realism.

7. uuuh, what else, the AI is really really stupid, ive swapped around the scripts and such but i guess i jsu need more complex ai, at least one that will make the enemy chase afer me with out climbing up my but.

8. i don't understand how to connect my enimies with waypoints, i create waypoints near an enemy, and selest the main script as follow and pace and such, but ive never seen the enemy walk them.

9. i havnt tried this yet but im wondering, what is the point of having different levels in the build game menu? if i have an end game marker in the first level will that take him to the player start marker in the second level!?

Thank you all very much for reading this ive been having so much trouble, but this program is absolutely azamingly cool and i cant wait until a build a new computer this summer so i can run this program at its full potential!!!

I can't help you, Swhale.
But I want you to know that you are not alone.

This should not have been released.
I would consider this the beginning of a beta.
(It should be Beta 1 not RC 20.)

However, I would like to let you know that you have been able
to do something that I cannot do. And that is create an .exe
Congrats on that!

As to number 1, I have this hypothesis that 64 megs on a video card is just not enough to run FPSC correctly. With rare exception, it seems that those who report problems such as this (Windows-related, especially) have less than 256 megs on the video card. Anybody agree or disagree?

At any rate, the main machine I'm using for FPSC has about the same specs as your notebook except that I have 256 megs on the video card, but I'm not having any of the problems you're having.

Actually,
I have a eMachine AMD64 3200+ Notebook with 512Megabytes of Memory and 64 Meg ATI 9600 Mobile Video Card. The program runs great and I have had very little trouble getting it to work. Here is what I suggest if you are running into trouble getting it to run. Check for Spyware/Adware/Virus. If you use Internet Explorer or visit sites of a unholy nature(You know the ones I mean) then most likely you may have caught something. Grab yourself a copy of AVG/Spybot etc to combat this. This is very important you do these things. Also, if you are looking for ways to do stuff, take a look at the sample levels that come with the program. Some of the answers you are wanting could be there waiting.

Logan 5, I don't agree with you: my card has only got 32MB RAM (nvideo geforce 2MX/MX 400) and everything works great, except that my framerate is slow and that I can't see shadows.

I actually developed the whole thing using 64MB video memory, just to keep myself real As you might have guessed, it worked fine for me too. As to the other points, the ones relating to the editor nags are something I can deal with during the tweaking phase for V1. What concerns me are the more serious issues such as the machine going 'haywire', 'failing to shutdown' and the 'fail to run' errors (which I am at a loss to understand as I have never seen a 'Fail To Run' text in Windows

The first step would be to provide us with a clear idea of a single bug which we can reproduce, discover why it happens on your specification and then attempt to resolve the issue. For this we will need you to email mike@thegamecreators.com with a complete specification of your target system, screenshots at the point things start to go wrong and a text account of what you have done and what you expected to happen and did not. This way we can almost sit beside you and see for ourselves what is happening.

I can understand fpsdave's concerns if he cannot even create an executable, but if we did not release now we never would have. This kind of product is something we could sit on for years and still miss compatibility problems on release. Best we sort them out during EA and have a solid product for V1. Likewise, if you can send to the above address what you have managed to do and where you go, we are doing a big bug hunt on Monday so the more you can provide, the closer to the fix we can get
