A while back I secured the domain URL of www.fpscreators.com. At the time, I thought I would use it for a school club for my students. That doesn't look like it will happen for a while (if at all), becuase since the release of FPSC, it's become clear that my classroom machines will need major upgrades in order to run it.

So, I've decided to use the domain to help foster FPSC community sharing. I'm going to set up a site where I and others can post things like: Tutorials (Flash-based and PDF docs), resources (like prefabs, textures, models, etc), scripts, user games, user level demos, and more.

Hopefully this will be something that others will get involved in by sharing and creating. I'm working on the hosting right now...I have a couple of places in mind.

Here's the link to the 'work-in-progress':

Thanks Madda.

Nerd, not sure. As soon as I get things set up. Then, it will be a matter of getting other people involved in submissions. If others don't get involved, it will probably fade to dust quickly. I plan on setting the site up handling the hosting. I'm also planning on creating some flash-based tutorials of basic FPSC usage targeting newbies to game design (like me), creating a bank of prefabs for download, and posting some of my own level demos. Hopefully others with more game design experience will submit some advanced tutorials, models, scripts, etc.

Thanks for the nice comments, Logan.

I have a temp/test home for my FPS Creators site. Check out what I have so far in terms of layout. I haven't added the drop-down menu yet, but you'll see where it's going. Let me know what you think.

That's excellent fdecker. Based on what I've seen of other off site forums, the ones that make it advertise. It can be as simple as putting the new site into your signature, so that people will be reminded every time you start a new topic or post a reply.

Also, if you get enough of the bugs worked out you might want to shoot an e-mail to the TGC fellows and see if they'd be willing to mention it in one of the news issues. Best of luck to you.

Ya, I know. Sorry. Well, that much only represents about 1.5 hours of work. I don't want to spend too much time on it (rather spend more time making FPS games and learning the editor). But, at least the 'theme' fits (I think).

Anyway, if people want to contribute resources, then great. If not, well no problem.

Well he just started. Give him some more time to make it less "bland". Plus he may not want to overdue it, so that it won't take forever and a day to load up on a slow connection. Most of the people that don't have FPSC either A)Haven't heard about it, B)Don't want it, C)Won't pay the money for it, or D)Have too slow of a connection. If he wishes to show off all the good features to those that don't have it because of connection speed (thus keping them interested in the product until the box release), then he should keep the site as minimalistic as possible. Or as I said earlier he just hasn't finished it yet.

Now is the winter of your discontent.

fdecker,

Check out this thread: http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=48416&b=21

I highly recommend you talk to to spg34us if you are interested in adding some "pop" to your site. spg34us is very talented with flash and web design and is a very nice person. I am sure he could be a great resource for you.

OTS...Thanks for the tip (although I thought I was "talented with Web design" too)

I'm not doing this to wooo people with my Web design skills, seriously. I just wanted a site where people could share FPS resources. I just wanted a simple design that was functional and in-theme with FPSC.

I was not implying that you weren't. I really like what you have so far. I have no room to talk, because I am not very good with flashy web stuff. I have tried to keep my site very simple and browser friendly.

The only reason I mentioned it was because people were talking about spicing it up and you even posted that you thought it was bland. I didn't think it was bland, but do think that spg34us is very good with flash. His site has great eye appeal.

Just a plug for a talented member of the community...

I am anxious to see your site. I hope to be able to add some resources to it for you in the future.

OTS, I wasn't offended, I hope you know that.

Anyway, if spg wants to help contribute to the site, he can contact me and let me know what he has to offer. Like I said, I'm intending this to be a community building project. I won't put any lousy banner ads, or have subscriptions, or any BS like that.

Yes, all links are dead. Well, technically they aren't 'alive' yet, so I guess that could qualify as 'dead'

A great start, nice site! We will be linking the best fan sites to the main fpscreator website when we get rolling with our real one, so when you see a LINKS section, you know who to email.

Working on the hosting today. I'm going to shoot for Monday to have a fully fuctional site that is open for submissions. I'll have an FTP account set up for submissions of games and levels, which will be linked from the main site.

People are already making scripts and programs to supliment FPSC. Hopefully those folks will allow me to add their stuff to the site.

OK, hosting is secured. FTP's all setup. I'll have a guest FTP account where people can upload their games and level demos. It's going to take a day or two for the DNS to resolve.
