OK people, convince me Ive got my regular DB v 1.13, and thats what I have been coding ED (Eternal Destiny) in lately. I am pondering on going pro.
I have heard about the speed increases. amd the useability of BSP maps, and these are catching my eye.
If I do infact upgrade, I am planning on upgrading my regular version, then re-installing dark basic regular, so I have pro and regular on my comp.
Anyone think this is a good idea? Pro looks so nice Im pretty sure my code is pro friendly, and now I will be able to hang out in both forums
So, convince me people!
Lol
Later guys,

Hi RPG umm my 2 cents
Reasons to upgrade in order of importance in MY opinion (others will dissagree )
1. Massive speed increase, especially with the Pipeline fixed on Sunday
2. Compatble with many more file types, eg Mp3, Jpg, Mpg - this massively reduces you exe size as you can imagine!
3. Much more comprehensive screen types. The old 320x240 resolution is even supported! Programs in Windows are PROPERLY and ACCURATELY resizable
4. Multiple camera views are possible at once, EG Split screen multiplayer, multiple windows in a tycoon style game, and Rear View Mirror in driving games
5. Loads of New Shaders and Graphical effects, EG real time shadows, reflections, cell shading...
6. Vastly improved file and variable writing and handling, including adding together of strings, texting'ing' variables, many explorer like file functions, advanced Dll usage...
7. Nice, easy, customizable, Windows based annotated Design - No more typing in 640x480 biggovision
8. Seriously faster 2d, sprites
9. The ability to include Icons for your Exe file
10. BSPs are useful (But for anygame style other than FPS, personally I prefer to write my own level format)
11. DBPro is expanding and improving all the time. DBClassic won't get any new updates or improvements now.
Reasons NOT to upgrade:
1. You can't afford it (Although its cheap at twice the price )
2. You expect your DB1/Enhanced code to work with it...
...Oooh might have a problem there I've said it before, but even tho I wasn't using any extinct commands, none of my DB1 games worked 100% with Pro Sorry. But still buy it, its a great product, and all NEW projects you start should be in it Buy it, patch it, and you'll be impressed

There are some good reasons to upgrade to DBP:
1. Speed.
2. Debugging tools
3. Gosubs in included files
4. Types
5. Faster 2D with alpha chanel transparency
6. Fullscreen window, no monitor flickers and faster
7. Shaders
Kang:
DB1 supports:

I'm prety sure it supports 320x240 too, if your monitor can handle it or if you're running in a window.

DG - I was about to make a sarcastic post saying it didn't and I could prove it, but I just went and tested and you're right! Sorry
That is very weird as I KNOW it never used to - these features must have been included in newer patches and the Enhanced version and I just didn't notice! I never saw anything about these formats and features in the help file (?) I know that in the first version I recieved with the manual specifically said you could only have wav or mid for audio, and bitmaps for graphics.
I appologise, I have done DB1Enhanced a dis-service. I used it extensively, and never noticed these features till upgrading to Pro! *laughing at my own incompetance, I throw a large flame at my post*
However, I have just tried it and windows don't resize the render, which makes the windows mode close to useless for all my needs, its much better in Pro.
Still - for the other reasons - DBPro is the way to go

depends which you prefer really ... Pro does have its advantages.
but really the only true advantages i'm comming to relise is the builtin types (cause DarkEdit adds them for enhanced and standard) as well speed.
other than those two things i really don't see the true advantages over enhanced.
and speeds is a very subjective thing anyway - because if it runs fine in enhanced there is no point in porting it to a system that although yes does use the same code basically ... it still is far from perfect in using it.
you'll notice with certain values like the mouse that they improved the accuracy however in doing this without telling us mean that if we copy code for it simply means that our mice run appear to run alot slower but smoother lol
upto you if you decide to - but i'd weigh up the projects personal advantages, especially when its a project will alot already vested into it.
