I'm not sure how many of you guys are acquainted with Character Studio 4 in 3DS Max 6, but I've run into a problem thats stopping my animation in its tracks. I can't seem to move the pelvis at all, besides leaning from side to side. I just want my character to bend his legs a bit for an idle animation but I can't get the Biped object to move at all. I've tried for hours and hours just on this one problem and its starting to feel like a lost cause. How can I fix this problem?

Thanks!

Perhaps if you create the biped animation before you attach the mesh to it. There are heaps of free bvh animations, including idle, pre- made out there.
I'm about to look at this area myself. Good luck.

1) select the 8 sided object in the center of the hips (Bip01 for ex),2)In the motion tab (the little wheel) open up keyframing tools and click the anchor left leg and anchor right leg buttons or place a planted key (under key info).

Using planded keys are good for saving animations and using the motion mixer. For a walk cycle you place planted keys on the toe bones and rotate the foot while it's on the ground. as it starts to move give it a sliding key. Then to move the foot through a step give it a free key. make sure you've turned on In Place Mode under the biped roll out (you may have to click on the gray line under biped playback.

Deicoon, I followed your suggestions, yet when I anchor both legs with the COM selected I still cannot move the COM or the pelvis and I can still move the legs. The planted and sliding keys give the same results, I cannot move the COM or the pelvis.... Everything else works perfectly except for those two objects.... are they not correctly connected to the mesh somehow? How should the heirarchy look?

What a headache...
