Hi all,

A new little forum feature is enabled - MailBack. If you set a MailBack email address in your forum Profile and tick the little box on the post form then you'll receive an email each time someone replies to the thread (except you).

At the moment you have to actually start the thread or post a reply to it in order to enable MailBack, but I might change that. You also cannot turn it off yet

Give it a shot, am interested to know if it works for you, especially those on sHatmail, err I mean Hotmail.

Cheers,

Rich

i would like to say that this feature is working nicely, now just implement it so that you don't have to post to activate it

Just what I've been waiting for.. Is it possible to have in your profile, that by default it's on or off for all your posts?

When to try it, got distracted, cliked send and hadn't ticked the box .

Cheers,

Jas

Yeah guess so, could get annoying though if you forget to turn it off Might be easier if I just make it so you can subscribe to a thread regardless of contributing to it.

Good stuff...I spotted it earlier but thought it was me missing a feature that had been there for months again.

Just imagine how many emails you would get if you enabled mailback for the threads "Word Association","L33T coder. Willing to make a sub-par effort. Right here ",and some other 1,000 posts threads.

Why can't it email you only once if the thread has been replied to since you last visited, like any other forum software does?

Good feature. Using Hotmail I noticed some of the messages go to my inbox, whereas others go to the junk folder, not a big problem though.

Keep up the good work

Because it's mailing you the replies to your post, not the fact there has just been "activity" in the thread, they are two different things (and I find the "there has been activity" option quite useless, I want to actually SEE the messages).

Ummm. Gmail works well for this. It groups all the repiles in "conversations". I would have never thought that this system of grouping messages would have a use.

Maybe you do believe it to be useless, but generally when I get spammed by any website with 40+ emails a day, I tend to start ignoring them rather quickly. While the gmail grouping is a nice solution to the problem, gmail isn't used by everyone. The point of the forum is so you can go there and read. If I wanted to be added to a mailing list, I'd subscribe to a DarkBasic mailing list.

It might just be a French thing, I dunno, but you seem to grow more useless every day.

If you've no interest in what people write in reply to your thread then don't actually enable MailBack then?

You are calling Multisync useless?
I won't reply to that, this is Rich's thread

That's side-stepping the point I made entirely. It's not that I don't want to know what the people said, it's that I don't need every single reply as an email. As a feature, it could save you time searching the forum for the threads you're interested in, to simply know whether they've been active since you left. As I said, the point of the forum is to come and read. The point of a mailing list is to let the reading come to you. I'd like something in between that tells me when the things I want to read, actually have new content.

Check out your last 50 posts, how many of them have actually added something tangible to the topic you posted in? (other than Multisync, which in and of itself is your topic, and you can do with it as you please) If you're not going to reply to it, why hit the 'Post Message' button?

Anyhoo, if both discussions are still going 'til then, I'll be back in 8-9 hours to add more input, if necessary (damn work!).

Dude, you can't go around trying to start arguements with everyone.

Especially Rich.

Check out the one where I explained about interpreting code.

Now what I want you to do, is check out your last 50 posts, and see how many of them you weren't rude in. I'm really sorry if me posting a few useless comments here and there annoys you, I do try my best to even them out with useful posts.

Do not turn this into a flamewar over one insignificant comment. There's a useful discussion going on here, lest it be spoiled by pointless bickering.
