@Bolt - Got my Official copy yesturday - YEAH!

I have always done Battle Practice, which is my favorite kind of fighting.
But, I guess now I will have to learn arena fighting to get past level 3 of the campaigns.

I would still love a way to turn down the music without lowering all the other in game sounds! - Future Enhancement!

Thanks for a great game!

Wow, thanks Bill! I really appreciate your support

Now that you are a proud owner of Firewall, I guess I have to listen to your feedback I may not be able to put that option in the options screen, but I can at least add it to an external preferences file which you can edit. I hope this will suffice. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again, and I'm glad you like the game

Hey bolt,
One or two lil problems, the bigest one i've noticed is that sometimes with certain screen sizes (1280x1029) to be exact the edges of the screen are "cut off" and I can only see like the last half of the words on the left side and all the things that hold the points are almost gone, but the numbers are still in the correct spot. Just thought that I'd let you know of an anoying little bug... oh and one more thing, if you release a "patch" try to make it so were not redownloading the whole game again... its very hard on us 56k-ers...

From your frendly neighborhood Beta Tester...

Yeah, I don't think I can really do anything about that, I don't think I can reposition the screen...thanks for the bug report though.

When I release patches they will just be new .exe files and any new media files that are required. I know how it feels to have a slow connection, when I am at home I can only connect at 19200 bps...

Thanks Prime_8, glad you like it.

After some appreciated pestering from one of my beta testers, I think I might be able to fix the problem that CPU reported. I have a question though: was the whole screen moved over? See, I assumed that it was a video card problem, like the whole screen itself was offset. If it is just the GUI, then I can fix it. Thanks

You're commitment to improving your game, often upon a single request, is impressive.

If you and TGC are interested in a few more sales, this looks like a very good deal:

Cheers! (Buying my copy tommorrow night.)

Thanks Drew, I'll take a look at that

I just don't want people to be disappointed in my game, so I want to make it so everyone like it

I'm working on a patch right now, here are the things that are going into it:
-Adjustable music volume
-Fix the screen position
-Anything else that gets brought up that I can do in a week...

If possible see if you can make it so the machines look further afield for work, because I couldn't complete this game, my only hacker in the area ran away because it was loosing

Apart from that, it is one nicely polished game, I might have to make a purchase

Robots all have a certain range, some larger than others. If they start to move back to your territory, simply select the unit or units, then click where you want them to move too. They will then look for new work in the new area that they are placed. Also, if you right click on your selected robots it will bring up a menu. If you set a robot to "Agressive" tactics, it will not retreat when it thinks it should, it will keep working to the death.

Oh, haha, I just looked at the pic I see what you mean now...well, this would be easily fixed if you had the full version, because you would be able to stick as many range drones as you wanted on a robot. What I would suggest is to find the robot with teh longest range (probably Dragon or Hover in your case...) and put a range drone on him, then he will be able to see further. Actually, I never got into that position that you were in on the map, I must say, nice job

lol, I wasn't pestering... I was... Suggesting?

Ok, maybe I was!

Worth it, though
Noone wants to be put off because they read a second-hand report of the GUI going odd at higher resolutions, do they!

Anyhoo,
Keep up the great work, Bolt

Jess.

"

Oh, yeah...that might do it lol

I guess i had the graphics and screen res at full My brain wasn't really working

Anyway, as JessTicular said, Really impressed with your quick responses to any user problems

Okay, I was experimenting with the screen resolutions, and found out that the highest resolution I have available in the game, 1280x1024, has a width to height ratio of 1.25, where all the other resolutions have a ratio of 1.33. There lies the problem. I could make the ratio correct by making the resolution 1280x960...but could anyone tell me if is this a resolution supported by most video cards?

Mine supports both

Since you accounted for the resolution ratio in your calculations of positioning the screen elements, could you not simply get the ratio of the resolution that the game is put too, then plug that into your calculations?

That way, you can offer a whole range of display modes... However, DBC doesn't have functions for checking availability of display modes which could cause problems...
Just food for thought

Jess.

[EDIT]
My card is an FX 5200
And... Congrats on getting the game as a compo prize!

Um...my hard drive crashed yesterday morning, but I was able to save my source code, and I have the media backed up on a flash drive. I have to get the stuff organized, but I think everything will be okay.

Now if I could only get my motivation back on track I have finals for the next week, so I will have some free time. Hopefully I can finish up the patch before school gets out in a week. Then when I go home I will have free time to get the players guide done.

@Bolt - Don't forget to backup your source code and media files!

You should backup your source code and media files so that if your computer dies, melts down, or explodes into a thousand pieces from too many DBC compiles, then you can reload everything on a new system if needed!

We admire your work, and don't want all your hard work to go away.

Drew,
I would if it wasn't for sale on the TGC main site anyway!

http://www.thegamecreators.com/?f=firewall

So, that's kind of the ultimate sticky!

Bolt,
That's nasty. Lucky you had those backups!

A good practice you may want to get into is starting a multi-session CD or DVD5 which holds ONLY your source and media for the game, and at the end of each coding session, back it up.
Put each new backup into a dated folder, something like;

...etc.

Jess.

Yeah, no sticky required.

Well, I've got a flash drive now, so I can back up my stuff quickly. I used to burn CD's, but that took longer. I still will for major updates though, in case I lose my flash drive

Okay, I am home from college now, so I have a little more time to work on it, but I am on a really slow internet connection now, so am rarely online, and will have trouble uploading updates, but I'll do it anyway.

I think I am finished with the patch, I will try to upload it in the next couple days.

I am also working on the player's guide now, actually have part of it done. If anyone has any suggestions for it, just let me know. I am looking for strategies for a specific robot, or a tactic, or a method of building, or really effective upgrades, or anything. Thanks.
