NTL are now offering the Option of increasing the overall speed of users connections.

These new options provide at least double the speed to all connections.

£17.99 per Month / Option 1) 300Kb 2) 1Mb
£24.99 per Month / Option 1) 750Kb 2) 2Mb
£37.99 per Month / Option 1) 1.5Mb 2) 3Mb

The downside to the deal, is that you will be Limited to 1GB per Day transfers. So depending on your daily use, will depend on if it is worth upgrading.

Still, it is a fantastic deal for those who generally only use thier internet in the evenings.

it's them deals that made me move off ntl. but their major issue is to fix half of the network.

btw they dont limit daily bandwidth until the end of the year when the system will be in place.

Will the Bandwidth limit affect all of thier Internet Service?
Right now, if there is the possibility of bandwidth reduction this could seriously hamper my use for NTL as my ISP.

While I do enjoy very low-ping gaming from my Cable connection, the daily bandwidth according to thier chart would limit me to 2hrs of Online Gaming a day.

I have just got into Final Fantasy XI, and it is a bit hard to put down after only two hours. If this will affect me anyways, then I'll upgrade, but if not I'd rather not risk moving onto a limited account.

They tried to do this with my cable package, they are slowly getting rid of channels to "Digital only" Service. I would have Sky instead by now if there wasn't a reception problem, but there is no way I'm paying for all 6 Packages just to view the 8 Channels I like which are all available in the Sky Basic package.
£45 per Month for 8 Channels just seems complete pointless.

You'll get much better value elsewhere, Nildram for example, are reducing their prices, especially for 2Mb connections...

Nildram looked quite interesting until I noticed the rate caps they have.

With NTL, I'd be subjected to between 28-31GB per Month. This is making me quite squeemish to move.

On Nildram, I would only have 1GB per Month. Then they would charge me £1.98 for every 2GB I use. So while I could have a 2Mb for a nice cheap £15.99 per Month, in order to get even equal bandwidth useage it would cost me a further £55.44-61.38
Thier business options seem pretty much identical to NTL.

Always good to read the fine print before sitting down to sign on the dotted line

Quote: "So depending on your daily use, will depend on if it is worth upgrading."
Both the 750 and 1.5 options (now becoming 2.0 and 3.0) will be upgraded automatically. The cap used to be a cap of 30gb a month which worked out approx 1gb a day, but they didn't really care if you went above it now and again. And remember it's really for the entire month. So 2gb in a day was accepted. Now it will be 1gb a day. Now if you go above the 1gb in a day a bit too often then they will get in touch apparently. But later in the year a cap will apparently come into place to enforce the 1gb limit. Basically they are looking into ideas such as freezing your download to 150 if you reach a gig download. So you can still do stuff, just very slowly. Until the next day.

The current 300 option will have an upgrade option. Either you stay on 300 with a monthly cap of 30gb (and I assume the same new guidelines as above), or you go to the new 1.0 speed for the same money (if you accept) but only have a 3gb monthly cap. You make your choices...

Note though if you go above 1mbit *and* have a STB (ie. set top box, not stand alone cable modem) then you will need to order a new STB, at no cost apparently.

One other point is that the upload speeds will be 10% of the download speeds. eg. 3Mbit will have 300Kbit upload.

Oh, and it's not all in place yet. They started upgrading yesterday, but apparently will take a couple of weeks to roll out to the entire country. Have seen on other forums that it has started though. Apparently you get an email saying you now have it, and to reset your modem etc.

Cheers

I am 99% probably lying in bed right now... so don't blame me for crappy typing

Nildram have a 50Gb limit (per month for the proper 2Mb ADSL system), which seems to be sufficiently high for me - it appears I dont go anywhere near that.
However, you might also want to look at ukonline, which whilst they are more expensive, they dont have a capping limit.

pipex which own nildram have an unlimited plan.

i mean if you wanted x gb/m you can pay upto £20 now for 2mb connection.

tiscali is probably the worst got monthly capping. but with that company, you'll know not many bandwidth hogs are on it.
