Check those poly counts if your getting anything from a free resource. Often the polygon counts are so high that the models are nigh on useless for games.

Typically, this is what I tend to aim at.

Characters 600-1200 polygons
Vehicles 500-2000 polygons
Furniture <100 polygons

It might be worth picking up a free modelling package and trying to reduce the polygon counts, or even make low polygon versions using the original media as a guide.

If you don't keep an eye on polygon counts, your game will quickly become too slow to be fun.

Spyware in a model? That's neat idea....

I think it rather funny that people want new models in their game to make their game "stand out" from the other, except the first thing that do is look for free models insted of making them themselves.

Nothing wrong with that, just their's a little irony in that.

Use a converter to get whatever format to DirectX. There are many out there. There is a topic on "Free" x converters, but 90% of them don't work correctly. I use Right Hemisphere "Deep Exploration" but it will cost you.
