Hi all! I was wondering how do you compress a large sprite. I want to make a menu to fit a 1024x768x32 screen so the sprite will be that size. But that will make a very large file size. And jpg arent very pixel perfect so the quality wont be that great. So all want to do is figure out how to make this file as small as possible so to keep my program as small as possible to.Or if there is a differnt way to make a menu. Im sorry if this is a stupid question or has been asked already but I need help. And sorry if this in wrong place I couldnt decide between DBP discussion or 2d all the way. I figured it was sprites so you guys would know what to do.

[EDIT]: I use adobe photoshop for my images and I went to file new and typed in 1024x768 and It said the file would be 2.2mb thats really big!!!

If you want a pixel perfect image you could try .png or .gif (.png compresses better I think). If your files are still too big with .png try to reduce the amount of colors (best is to avoid any gradients as much as possible). To save to .png with PS it's the easiest IMO to use the "save to web".

Thats for a .psd though...They are allways huge.

When youve finished it just save as a .gif or .jpg.

Ought to be a lot smaller.

Did you choose png-8 for the .png? Seems a 'bit' odd that's the size more than double than the .gif.
