I've heard that there's a nasty msn messenger virus going round that 'if someone in your contacts has it then it turns your c drive into a wasteland and you have to format your pc'.

is this true?

Yes. The only way to fix it is to stop using MSN. I hear AIM is good. That's true also.

Did you know gullible has been taken out of the English dictionary? Apparently it was confusing too many GCSE English students who thought the book was called Gullibe's Travels.

Don't know about that one, but there is a fairly annoying one spreading around.

A contact sends you a .pif file, that when run sends it to all your messenger contacts. It also won't let you go to certain anti-virus websites, or run any anti-virus software. It comes up with a text message in notepad when you boot up your computer saying "#### you Larissa you ####### n00b!"

And yea, that was a pain in the arse to get rid of.

It's a bit stupid to run a PIF file that get randomly

PIF files are DOS executables, it's highly unlikely anybody wilkl be sending them.

I have a friend or two who do that too. Usually ask them to tell me what it is first.

You even run executables from your contacts? That is dumb, even if you know them as it could be an automatic virus.

I did it...
Does it worry you that I did?

Also, there's no way to "get that really cool red writing" in your thread titles.

The files aren't sent by people, they are sent by the worm.

Same here. I thought they were spam that harvested hotmail addresses at first. It seems it's something much worse
