Newly created Text Manual
http://www.freewebs.com/db_games/TileFusionManual.doc

New Shot of a Resized RM2K Chip Set

Heres a shot of a grass tile being placed with the Fill command

If anyone would like to make a better GUI that would be awesome and greatly appreciated. My Email is skeletorsks1987@yahoo.com but I would really appreciated any and all feedback to be posted here.

Thanks and if the program meets most peoples standards/expectations then I could maybe try and do a tutorial where Zenassem left off!

Here's an RPG style tile set that I'll never use - it's designed to look retro, so it'd be an easy tile set for beginners to start from. One nice addition if you haven't considered it is layering, like allow a few different layers of map so that the sprites can go behind walls etc.

Thanks for the comments everyone .

@ Gen, looking forward to your feedback when you get home from school .

@ Van B, Thank you for the Tile set, but unfortunately it cannot be used properly in the Tile editor. The reason is that the Tile Editor divides the tile sheets up into 32 x 32 squares and the images your tile sheet creates are not consistent in size. When the Tile Editor slices the Tile sheet you gave me, it becomes a mix of different images (example: part of a tile will consist of castle, grass, and wood).

About Layers, do you mean like layer 1 would be say "walkable", layer 2 tiles would be sprites, and maybe layer 3 would be tiles such as water that would be "Un-walkable"?

@ everyone, Im gonna start on a program where instead of the user having to change the code to the Tile Editor each time they want to get a new tile set, they can run this program which will ask questions like the Tileset name, number of tiles in the set, and how many tiles per X row (horizontal row, so the Tileset can be sliced properly).

Also if anyone that is talented in the field of pixel art who would be so kind to make a new GUI that would be completely awesome.

And plz more feedback because like I said I might use this as my senior exit project and I want it as innovative as I can make it.

if you can make amendments to support the style of layout that van-b has used then you can always use the ones in rm2k, loads of them about (i mean literaly hundreds)

Me like!

Problems/Suggestions
1) When I tried to use the fill tool, it seemed to get hanged up. Mouse would still move, but none of the other buttons would react when clicked on and nothing got filled.
2) When you go to look at the tile set, have some way to let the user know which tile is currently selected, a box around the selected one or some to that sort.
3) Interface was pretty nive already. Simple to use and understand.
4) Perhaps have it in a window and not fullscreen. Personally I like tools like that better. Can use it plus anything else I may need to use with little hassle to get to the others.

Overall, I think that was nice.

Edit: Just read about fill command. Change to 1) Possibly make it easier to use the fill command. And if this is in a window, have an option to create a new project and the name of it is in the window caption along with app name so it can be confirmed whether there is one open or not.

@ DBPvivi, I completly forgot about RPG maker tilesets! Its been so long since I used RPG Maker and unfortunatly I must have deleted all the tiles/games I created. But ya thats a good idea, Ill start searching for some tile sets.

@ Gen, Cool glad you liked it!

1) For the Fill command, you must enter Numbers. (1,20,1,15 to fill the entire clickable area) The Fill button basically works like the "Box" command
but it goes in the format of Left, Right, Top, Bottom instead of Left, Top, Right, Bottom. And Yes when you hit the Fill command it will freeze everything up because if you look to the right (3rd box down) you will see text saying Left TileX _ then you would enter say 1, then Right TileX _ which you could enter 20, then Top TileX_ which you could enter 1, then Bottom TileX_ which you could enter 15 to fill the entire clickable area.

2) Good Idea

3) Heh, simple yes very.

4) Good Idea

Looks like I've got some competition

I am putting my tile/map editor in the WIP section this weekend. I have to say this is looking rather good, it reminds me of my first editor I made for a game, except with more features.

Anyway, keep up the good work

@ Pizzaman: Thanks , Im looking forward to seeing your Tile Editor, as I could prolly learn a thing or two from you.

@ Everyone:
Here are some new screenshots from todays work.

Changed GUI a tiny bit and made the program window based.

ReSized a RM2K "Chip-set" to work in the Tile Editor

Shot of the new program "TileSet Helper"

Update includes...
1) I swapped the "Fill" button with the "Info" button and added text "Fill:" above where the Fill info is.

2) I resized a RM2K "chip-set" (was very dreadful) and loaded it into the Tile Editor. (Thanks again DBPvivi!)

3) I created a program to go along with the Tile Editor that will make loading TileSets much easier. Now instead of having to change the actual code, you just need to run this program and follow the text prompts.

4) In the "Tile" screen a green box surrounds the tile you are about to select. (Thanks again for idea Gen)

5) I changed the program to run in a Window-mode so you can switch between applications.(Thanks again for idea Gen)

If you have any questions, comments, or feedback post them here.

K Upload link should be fixed... I have no idea why they disabled my other site.

Anyhow, with the new link, I added a few updated fixes to the editor.

1) When you hit the "Save" button you will now be prompted to name the map.
2) When you click the "Load" button you will be prompted to name the map you wish to load.

@ Dj, Thanks a ton for uploading my file!

However, I applied for a dbspot subdomain and thanks to the very kind Jimmy, I was able to upload my Tile Editor there as well.

Looking great Gen!

@ Nitrixik Studios, Ya this is open source . I figure that since im not selling this editor why should I keep the source secret! I figure that some newcomers can maybe learn from my code and be able to make their own editor.

Also, I just talked to me Tech Teacher at my school and he said that I can use this Tile Editor as my Senior Exit project! Im so happy, cause my alternative was a research paper on Fibonaci(sp) numbers!.

It tries to save if you quit the program while it's in save mode. You should only save if it is a valid filename.
