hello, ive been modelling for not so long, but i made this character model for my game...in my opinion he needs new hands and a face, either of wich i am not skilled at making. he also needs a texture wich i am not skilled at making. please help me out by making or uiding e throug the process of making these items. also comments and critiscism(constructive) would be very much appreciated. and again, im not going for a totally realistic style here, or i wouldve used more than 970 polys.

Oh my, why don't you weld that man's verticles. It looks horrible unwelded

Yo! My sig image was too big so a mod removed it. My sig should be under 600x120... thanks!

Probably would have trouble animating him as well if he was all in one piece.

Looks like a decent enough model to me. Wish I could help but like you I really am quite useless at texturing!

I wouldn't say it was crap...just needs a little improving, great for low poly, oh and I can't call crap, especially if any of you's seen my W.I.P ronin the original models I made for that are beyond crap.

Anyway I'll try helping you, first you need to know what a texture map looks like, I can't show you one, but if you download UV mapper
www.uvmapper.com and open your model as a .obj (you may need to convert) then choose 'new UVmap' from one of the menus then choose planar (I think planar is best for this but it really depends on you so chose which UV map looks best) Then save the model and UV map as a texture, then open the map into windows paint (because the map is saved in 8 bit or lower colours and you will need to change that) then click on save as and change the drop down menu of file types to 24bit bmp then open it up in your main art program (ie Photoshop, paintshop pro etc) I would say it is best to use a program with layers but its not manditory. Then you can make the texture and will map around the wireframes (make sure you cannot see wireframes when saving the image because they will show up in the object texture) Well save the final image then open the new UV mapped model in your 3D program and open the new texture and apply to object (Possible problem if you're using 3D canvas)

But if your texturing skills suck then just look up each part you need on google images and use them as an image reference so you can get the texture type you need.

I hope this helps you

Look at the final line

'But if your texturing skills suck then just look up each part you need on google images and use them as an image reference so you can get the texture type you need.'

This is what i call researching, you can't really follow a tutorial to make textures, just use real images as a reference and copy thats how you learn, or you could pay out money for one of those online or book courses on it, i think they have one on the caligari website www.caligari.com

Instead of all of the hair bits, Just texture it. You could lose a few verticles then.
