Ok, is there any programs that have drag and drop abilities? I can import my pre-fabs and then just drag and drop them, and then it will save a map file?

I suppose that depends on what you consider a map file to be... DeleD for example is a pretty commonly used level editor that has the prefab functionality that you're speaking of and it exports its map files in the .X format.

There is no programs that let you just drag and drop a level together. Making a level isnt that easy. If you want to make levels and games that easily then fps creator has a drag-and-drop level creator but for real levels in Dark Basic, it isnt that easy.

I am trying to get better at 3d modelling and level making. If you tell me what you want the level to look like and give me more information, I can try to make some levels for you.

i can code, but not model, but i want to make the worlds. That would be a cool thing for TGC to make next. A drag and drop level maker where you can just import your own prefabs and it makes it into a .x file.

i dont think they have one out yet (or from what i know) but cart shops good and you can put prefabs in there in the prefab folder then get them out and put them where you want. it is pretty easy even if you suck at modeling its preety easy and you get use to it. p.s. it is kind of drag and drop in a way!

Is the level you want to make going to be indoors or outdoors. If it is going to be outdoors, you can use magic world and then put .x objects, building and trees on the level you make in magic worlds.

http://darkbasic.thegamecreators.com/?m=showcase_view&i=101

If you are making indoor levels, use deled, it really isnt that difficult if you levels are simple. If you have complicated levels then it really is very difficult. The best way to learn is to try to make a simple room that is just a square, put stuff in the room, texture the walls, ceilings, and the floor. Make it look like a real room in a house or what ever. Then try to make a hallway and connect it to another room. See it isnt that difficult if you take your time and learn how to do it. Just dont expect to start the applicationa dn have a full level in minutes.

well deled is too confusing, and it doesnt give me any help on how to use it.

They will be out door levels, but there will be buildings also. Its a war game. I have two modelers, but im the games designer and programming and wanted a way i can take their prefabs and build levels with them. Just an over head view that i can drag and drop.

Anyway, back to deled. What hard for me is all the x y and z positioning and just using those 4 tiny screens.

There is nothing that easy, maybe when you get better at programming you cna program one and then every one will have an easier time programming but there isnt anything that easy now.

You say that it will be outdoors and you want to put the building that your modellers made on the level.

Then download magic worlds, i gave you the link above. It will allow you to edit a matrix easily and then will let you position lights and 3d models easily with drag-and-drop.

hey if you want to do something like make your own level then (i just thought of this) make like a floor or different kinds then make some prefabs like a park bench for instance and make some buttons and stuff and make a function for each like if button1 = pressed on (or watever) then load object "object name.x" ,object num then just figure out where they clicked and position the object there and you might want to make a three dimentional mouse to show where. sorry i couldnt fill you in on detail but i have to go and eat realy quick hope that helps bye

Well if you are looking for something that easy, let me suggest FPSC. You say you can program. Well you can make all of your maps while you are waiting for the 6.0 release of DBpro which will have indigenous support for FPSC maps. Other than that, I suggest boning up a little on your modeling skills... Either that or find a buddy that possesses modeling skills. You're not going to get far writing games without it.

As I've not played with it I can't say for certain, but I would believe that to be a true statement of fact otherwise it'd be a bit limited in its utility.

Well you could code a level editor like that and export it to your own file format, that's what I'm working on.

well you could just pick one of the programs and try to work out how to use it, cartography shop is really really easy to use, the prefabs are on the right panel, work out how to make objects and light then click on calculate lights and then you got a high quality light mapped 3D world, see these things do not let you make good quality stuff with a few clicks, it take work

I am unigue like everone else

Simply browse through the available prefabs, select a prefab you want to use, then click on any of the 2D views to place that prefab in your world.

Use SHIFT+leftmouse to select the object, then use the MOVE command to move it around (using 2D views). It can't get any easier than that really. Read the Help for more info or ask around on the DeleD forums!

Where do you think the models you would drag and drop comes from?
Someone has to model them.

They can't just come out of your brain.
If it was that easy there wouldn't be any modellers.

It takes skill both to code and model.
It is just as hard to code as to model.
It all depends on what you practice.
