Hello.. I am getting very angry.. every time i start programming on darkbasic pro i make a few programs and then my com starts going all slow and then it freezes up for hours and i end up having to hold down the power button until the com turns off then i have to go through hours of scanning and half of the time it doesnt even boot up windows.. the reason i'm posting is because it didnt do this before i got darkbasic.. maybe my com doesnt have all the right stuff but it does have 520 mb ram and a 64 mb video card and like 15 gb of space on my hdd do i need to buy a new com if so what kind of com should i buy for programming?

Yes, sounds like you could do with a new computer. If you cant afford a new computer, then I suggest you get a new hard drive, and install Windows XP, get all the latest updates for everything and try DBPro again.

If you dont want to do that, do a full virus scan, scan disk and defragment, get all the latest updates for everything and re-install DBPro.

By the way isn't it a bit odd having 520Mb of RAM ? That means you've got 512+8Mb - not very ideal.

As a comparison, my Windows 2000 machine (with a wretched internal Intel graphics card - 16Mb), 128Mb RAM and about 4Mb of free disk space can run DBPro perfectly well without slow down or constant crashing.

Wow i didnt know darkbasic coud run on such a low graphics card and only 128 mb of ram plus only 4 mb hdd space!!!? thats amazing and makes my com look like a crock of crap... lol so what kind of com should i get just for programming

The hard drive formatted was 8Gb - its got all the works stuff on it, leaving very little left - as you can image, it can take a while to compile stuff...

com + puter = Computer.

It sort of jerks along actually... But it does work... Graphics resolution is limited, as well as the number of 3D objects...

Hmmm. Complete freezing you say? I would first think of a power or heat issue. Or both. Followed by corruptions (which can be caused by unscheduled reboots from power or heat issues). For example, just recently my PC wouldn't get past the XP login screen. Well it would, but would error and not allow Explorer to run (which is the whole of what most people call "Windows" for XP - ie. the desktop). You could get Firefox though from an ALT+CTL+DEL task manager (run option).

After a while of ignoring comments from people saying it was adware I found out it was actually one of my windows files which had corrupted. Removed the file (actually moved it just incase) after reading up on it on the web, rebooted, and it all worked fine. And Windows recreated the file, which was nice

Anyhows, turned out that I'd forgotten the PC had rebooted every now and again (I mean suddenly froze with black screen - no BSOD - and sometimes rebooted itself, or I had to manually reboot ie. keep finger on power button for a few secs) ever since I had installed a new graphics card, which on one occasion corrupted the file. Of course it was because my PSU couldn't handle all the devices on it (there is one or two), and the graphics card was the final straw (needed it's own power cable). Weedy 300w effort basically. So, I got a 650w 3 fan effort (hell, they are cheap as pants), and everything runs smoothly again. Tops.

Oh, and I used to run DBC perfectly well on a 450Mhz P2 with a GF2 card (think was 32mb or so).

Failing all that, then how long since a format and reinstall? Esp with windows 9X.
