All versions of windows have the MSDOS Command prompt. Go to start->run and type "cmd".

In the future, please try to make more helpful titles such as "C++ - Running with MSDOS on XP," because people browsing the forums aren't going to click a topic that has "help me plz" in it.

That looks like you're using examples from the book '3D Game Programming All in One' and if that's the case, it's *not* C++, but Torque engine scripts. Make sure you have it set up properly, because I got that book's examples to work fine in XP.

Isn't the .cs extension for c# files, and not c++? I thought the c++ file extension was .cpp.

What exactly is torque? because the book i have says it uses the same lang as c++ but ive always wondered why it doesnt come with a compiler is it because you have to edit your project and then launch it through command prompt? or am i missing out on the compiler?
thx

There is like a new scripting engine every other day...so your best bet it to pick a good few one, google the crap out of them until you know all about them, and forget the others.

Aka:
is what I choose to use.

3d Game Programming All In One does not teach you to program C++, it teaches through several examples of TorqueScript, which is a scripting language for the Torque Game Engine that is similar to C++.

If I remember correctly you're doing the part where you output "Hello World" to the screen on some background. Double check all the steps to make sure you're executing "tge" properly from the command line, including directory and file setup.

My favorite free compiler is Borland command line tools, http://www.borland.com.

...Yeah, that isn't really appropriate use of the 'AKA' acronym. It actually doesn't make much sense at all the way you used it.

Take Apolloed's advice with Dev-C++ and get a few good C++ books and read them about 10 times. It works, trust me.
