3 Dimensional Chat / Can someone please talk me through UV mapping?

I've just made an AK47 in Wings3D, but i always muck up when i try to UV map,a nd i dont know anything about how to do it! could someone please help, and talk me through it? thanks

well, i used that program u mentioned, sort of textured it all, not too much incase it wouldnt work, and i tryed it out, and it didnt work, my model all turned out black, ill tell ya what Gman, if i send u my model, you can keep it, but could u make a texture for it and post it here...i dont care if its not that good, as long as there is a texture....thanks ALOT in advance

thats the tutorial that i used to learn how to do it.

i usually do it the way thats descibed in tip 6, snapping imges becaus ei think it is easier then making a uvmap thing.

For example on the shotgun i made once, i had 3 textures. A wood looking one, a black one and a metal looking one. I just snapped the textures to the parts of the model i wanted it to look like that and put the model and those 3 images in the folder with the game and I have a model that i textured in seconds.

I do it the easy way because i am horrible at 3d modelling.

If you followed the directions then it had to work. No one else has had any problems with the directions I've given.

If it turned all black in Lithunwrap, that is either because the normals are all facing the wrong direction or because the texture you created for it is all black. Or because the material specifies black as the ambient, diffuse and specular color for the material.

nah it wasnt in lithunwrap, just in darkbasic...

i just tried the "tip 6" thing, worked on wings, but do u know how to get that texture onto db?
